Each year the Education Alumni Association (EAA) selects a bachelor's, master's/advanced certificate, and doctoral student to receive the Outstanding Student Medal, which is presented annually at the College of Education Convocation. EAA and the Office of Advancement in the College of Education are pleased to announce the three 2018-2019 recipients of this prestigious award.
Kelsey Linnig, Special Education, is this year's Bachelor’s Degree Outstanding Student Medallion recipient. Kelsey completed her degree through the Learning & Behavior Specialist program and was a James Scholar all four years during her undergraduate career. Her faculty nominator said, "I truly believe that she (Kelsey) will be a leader who will leave a significant mark in the field of special education."
Crystal Williams, Special Education, is the Master's Degree/Advanced Certificate Outstanding Student Medallion recipient for 2018-2019. Crystal has earned her Master's Degree in Early Childhood Special Education with a specialization in birth to age three. Crystal's faculty nominator said, "At least three other faculty members approached me when the "call" came out, encouraging me to nominate Crystal for this award. Her practicum supervisors have said she is one of the strongest students they have ever seen."
Shereen Oca Beilstein, Educational Psychology, is the recipient of the Doctoral Degree Outstanding Student Medallion award. Shereen's work has resulted in both her PhD and Master's degree in Educational Psychology from Illinois, with an emphasis in Developmental Sciences—particularly, in building foundational and flexible mathematical reasoning skills. Her faculty nominator said, "I am convinced she will contribute lasting knowledge to our understanding of the contexts and supports necessary for children to learn mathematical concepts. The work that Shereen has begun will have lasting impact."
These three honorees will deliver remarks on behalf of their represented class at the College of Education's 2019 Convocation Ceremony on Saturday, May 11.
Congratulations to Kelsey, Crystal, and Shereen on their well-deserved awards.
