The National Science Foundation (NSF) recently awarded nearly $300,000 in funding to EPOL professor Dr. Adrienne Dixson to study STEM NOLA, a nationally-recognized STEM engagement program.
Dixson, the project's principal investigator, is joined by collaborators and Co-PIs Dr. Michelle Rogers, Drexel University, and Dr. Vanessa Dodo-Seriki, Morgan State University.
Their project examines the growing prominence of organizations focused on Science, Technology, Education and Math (STEM) and seeks to understand how sustainability of outreach and financing play a crucial role as the nation looks to meet the increased need for workers trained in technical fields. This project seeks to explore the characteristics of STEM New Orleans Louisiana (NOLA), a community-based program targeting underrepresented K-12 students. The project will provide insights into a model of STEM learning to investigate issues of equity, accessibility and broadening participation.
The award start date is officially December 1, 2019. Congratulations to Dr. Dixson and her colleagues on this exciting new research award!
