Two scholars from the College of Education and the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment (NILOA), Dr. Natasha Jankowski and Dr. Gianina Baker, have authored the opening chapter to a recently published book Trends in Assessment: Ideas, Opportunities, and Issues for Higher Education.
Trends in Assessment, edited by Stephen P. Hundley and Susan Kahn from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, provides an overview of tried and true assessment concepts while engaging contemporary approaches and ideas that have very practical implications. The volume concludes with a look toward the future by identifying emerging, multimodal trends in assessment.
In the opening chapter “Movement Afoot: Fostering Discourse on Assessment Scholarship”, Dr. Natasha Jankowski, research assistant professor and NILOA executive director, and Dr. Gianina Baker, NILOA assistant director, lay the foundation for the volume. By leveraging NILOA’s expertise and various research efforts, this chapter provides substance to the various trends in assessment discussed throughout the volume; including assessment methods, curriculum design, and equity in assessment.
We are happy to recognize Dr. Jankowski’s and Dr. Baker’s newest contribution to the field of assessment, and we invite you all to engage with the various ideas set forth in Trends in Assessment.
