Professor in Global Studies in Education Cameron McCarthy gave a symposium lecture to the University of Cambridge Faculty of Education in the Donald Macintyre Building on Friday, October 18. McCarthy's lecture was on the topic: “Burnished Ornamentalism: Making Sense of History, Iconography and the Visual Cultural Practices of Postcolonial Elite Schools in Globalizing Circumstances.”
The lecture was based on data derived from McCarthy's international collaborative 9-country study of elite schools in globalizing circumstances. It specifically addressed the preservation and deployment of symbolic capital of these schools in new transnational educational markets.
