The Psychology Department is hosting two language talks of interest on Friday, 2/14. Dr. Maryellen MacDonald and Dr. Mark Seidenberg from the University of Wisconsin-Madison will be speaking at noon and at 1:30 p.m., in 819 Psychology.
At noon Dr. Maryellen MacDonald will be giving a talk titled: Language production is not just for producing language
Directly after at 1:30 p.m., Dr. Mark Seidenberg will be giving a talk titled: A Bridge Too Far: Welcome to Reading Wars II
Maryellen’s talk will be about relating language and other aspects of cognition, and how language production processes may underlie some cognitive processes, like verbal working memory. Mark’s talk will be about the science of reading, as well as the translation of reading research to reading instruction. Mark wrote a lovely book on this topic, Language at the Speed of Sight, which came out a couple years ago.
Both talks will be in 819 Psychology. There will be a happy hour at 5 p.m. (location TBD) if anyone would like to chat a bit more with Mark and Maryellen.
