Congratulations to Dr. Rochelle Gutierrez, professor in Curriculum & Instruction, on her successful Spencer Foundation proposal, "Political Conocimiento in Teaching Mathematics: Preparing Teachers to Advocate for Students." Gutierrez and her two collaboratoring investigators are being awarded $500,000 for research beginning August 1, 2020.
Dr. Gutierrez' scholarship focuses on issues of identity and power in mathematics education, paying particular attention to how race, class, and language affect teaching and learning.
The Spencer Foundation has been a leading funder of education research since 1971 and is the only national foundation focused exclusively on supporting education research.
The campus' Office of Foundation Relations offers period meetings for faculty and staff to learn more about submitting proposals to private foundations. The next Zoom meeting is Tuesday, April 14, 2020 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Please email Lisa Denson-Rives for more information.
