Ariel Stevenson, an online Ed.D. student in EPOL, has recently been published in the Journal of Environmental Studies and Sciences. Stevenson co-authored the article titled "Shifting the approach: greening abolitionist teaching for inclusive sustainability."
The article examines environmental racism embedded within environmental studies and sciences and how the current curricula perpetuate Eurocentric voices and perspectives. Her team suggests a student-centered approach and that inclusive sustainability can transform student outcomes, sense of belonging, and open pathways for environmental engagement.
Stevenson is pursuing a degree in Diversity and Equity and is currently the Deputy Chief Diversity Officer at California State University San Marcos.
