Recent policy changes in the federal government have come quickly and, in many cases, with few details. These directives can create confusion and anxiety, particularly among those who are most vulnerable. The College of Education, alongside the university, remains unwavering in our commitment to making education equitable and accessible to all learners.
The university has created resources for students, faculty, and staff seeking more information. Online resources include a federal updates website and email address where you can view FAQs and ask your own questions. A resource guide for what to do if ICE arrives on campus is also available.
In addition, the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and the U. of I. Police Department will host a webinar, Supporting Our Students if ICE Comes to Campus, Tuesday, February 18, from 1 - 2 p.m. This session will teach staff and faculty about their rights and how best to support students if federal immigration officials are on campus. There will also be a version of this event for students at the University YMCA on February 19 from 6 - 7 p.m.
