Congratulations to assistant professor Amber Ray, who has been awarded an Early Career Grant from the Institute of Education Sciences' National Center for Special Education Research.
Ray, who was notified this summer, was awarded one of seven Early Career Development and Mentoring awards under the FY 2021 Research Training in Special Education program from NCSER.
Her project is titled College Ready: Reading and Writing to Learn, and is focused on improving the reading and writing abilities of high school students with or at risk for high-incidence disabilities. The intervention will support students in developing the ability to utilize technology tools to identify quality source texts, complete a close reading of each source text, and plan and write an informative essay that integrates and incorporates information across these source texts. These capabilities are essential to succeed in high school and will make a substantial contribution in preparing students to be successful in college.
Again, congratulations to Dr. Ray on this prestigious research funding!
