    There are service-learning opportunities in ENG 315, LINC-Learning in Community for Sp13.  Students in previous semesters have enjoyed the hands-on, real projects working with and for community partners around the world.

  • NNIN REU: National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network Research Experience for Undergraduates Program

    The National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network will host a Research Experience for Undergraduates (NNIN REU) Program from June through August. Engineering and science students with broad interests across disciplines focusing on nanotechnology are eligible to apply.  Application Deadline:  February 13th, 2013.

    The chosen undergraduates taking part in this ten-week program will receive hands-on nanoscience and technology experience through research, with applications to bio-engineering, chemistry, electronics, materials science, optics, optoelectronics, physics, and the life sciences. We will also host a small number of projects studying the social and ethical issues (SEI) of nanotechnology. The SEI projects are well suited to communications majors, as well as science majors.

    Program supported by:  NSF Integrative Graduate Education and Research Traineeships (IGERT) and Virginia Tech Interdisciplinary Education Program (IGEP)

    Seeking applications from prospective students with bachelor's or master's degrees in engineering or biology (or closely related fields) motivated to conduct research, think, collaborate, and solve problems at the intersection of the engineering and biological sciences.

    Trainees will study the dynamic processes that move material, momentum, and energy within, around, through, and between biological systems, from single molecules to the environment.

    Discovery, analysis, and solution of critical issues in biological transport require truly interdisciplinary researchers who are educated in both engineering and biology, who merge these perspectives, and who can communicate effectively with fellow researchers, policy makers, and the public. 

    Trainees receive:
    * $30,000 stipend

  • The Cornell University 2013 Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Summer Undergraduate Research Program: June 3 - August 9, 2013; Application Deadline: March 1, 2013

  • The Center for Energy Efficient Electronics Science (E3S) Internship Programs at UC Berkeley, MIT, and Stanford: June 9 - August 10, 2013; Application Deadline is February 1, 2013

    This 9 week internship is aimed at rising sophomores, juniors, and non-graduating seniors who are engineering and physical science majors with a 3.25 GPA or better and an interest in pursuing a Ph.D. in science and engineering. Students must be US citizens or permanent residents. This opportunity will provide real-world experience working with E3S researchers in the development of materials and devices for ultra-low energy electronics (www.e3s-center.org/research/).   • The Summer Undergraduate Program in Engineering Research at Berkeley Information Technology for Sustainability (SUPERB ITS) Research Experience at UC Berkeley: June 10 August 9, 2013; Application Deadline: January 31, 2013

  • Cornell U. Astronomy Research Experience

    *Application and supporting materials must be received by February 4, 2013*

    This flexible 10-week summer 2013 program offers undergraduate students an opportunity to work on individual research projects with Cornell faculty and research staff on a wide range of topics in planetary science, astronomical instrumentation, astrophysics, general relativity, and cosmology.

     The assistantship includes a $6,400 stipend and relocation funds up to $1000.

    The 2013 NASA Aeronautics Scholarship Application is now open. The NASA Aeronautics Scholarship Program seeks to attract students interested in the field of aeronautics to work with NASA's Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate (ARMD) which is directed toward enhancing the state of aeronautics for the nation, transforming the nation's air transportation system, and developing the knowledge, tools, and technologies to support future air and space vehicles. The ARMD focus is on cutting-edge, fundamental research in traditional aeronautical disciplines, as well as emerging fields with promising application to aeronautics.

  • 2013 Naval Research Internship Opportunities
