  • Cyber Security Scholarship available for Fall 2023

    The application for the Illinois Cyber Security Scholars Program (ICSSP) for Fall 2023 is now open to Grainger College of Engineering undergraduate or graduate students who want to specialize in Cyber Security/Privacy, or School of Information Sciences graduate students in the MSIM or PhD program.

    This scholarship program is a CyberCorps Scholarship for Service (SFS) program at UIUC that provides funding for full tuition and a generous stipend.

  • HOPE Scholarship for the 2023 – 2024 Academic Year

    The Helping Others’ Personal Excellence (HOPE) Scholarship is a student-initiated fee that provides funds for students who demonstrate financial need yet do not otherwise qualify for financial aid.  This scholarship fund—a commitment by students, for students—is intended to help alleviate some of the burdens that come with attaining higher education. 

    Student applicants must identify as one of the following:

    • Undocumented
    • DACA
    • Temporary Protected Status (TPS) as listed with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizen & Immigration Services
    • International from a country experiencing financial strain due to a crisis creating economic instability, political instability, or war

    Whether you've already applied to graduate programs or not, you may want to look into the Samvid Scholarship, which provides up to $100,000 for two years of graduate study leading to one of the following degrees: MD, MBA, JD, MPP, MPH, EdD, or MS/MA in social sciences or STEM fields.   • The HACIA Scholarship Foundation is accepting applications through January 20, 2023

    The HACIA Scholarship & Education Foundation has established an undergraduate scholarship award for Hispanic students enrolled in an accredited university or college institution in curriculums related to the construction, architectural, or engineering fields of study.  Applicants should either reside in the Chicagoland area or attend a local Chicagoland area university.

    Since they have received a low number of applications for this year, the foundation has  extended the deadline to FRIDAY, JANUARY 20, 2023.

Grainger Engineering scholars earned scholarships from $500 to $10,000 based upon the strength of their application. There are 4 types of scholarships which include named scholarships, corporate scholarships, unrestricted scholarships, and scholarships set up for specific student organizations. Scholarships are for one academic year, unless otherwise noted on your scholarship notification.

  • CMCC Research Experience for Undergraduates Program

    - The Center for Mechanical Control of Chemistry (CMCC) is a new research center funded by the National Science Foundation

    - Each summer, starting with this coming summer, the Center will have a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program

    - Undergraduate students will carryout fundamental research as a full member of a research group at one of the affiliated center locations (University of Pennsylvania, University of New York City, Texas A&M University, Northwestern University,and University of California-Merced) over a 10 week period.

    - Students will also participate in professional development and science communication in collaboration with the Science History Institute in Philadelphia, PA.

    - A virtual option is also being planned to support activities pending the impacts of COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Research Support Grant (RSG)

    - Provides students from all disciplines with the funds necessary to conduct research or creative projects during the academic year both on and off campus (including summer terms)

  • 2023 Corporate Scholarships

    Some NACME Board Companies and Non-Board Companies are interested in students majoring in engineering and computer science to apply for scholarship funds and internship opportunities.  These scholarships are open to NACME Scholars and Non-NACME Scholars.

    Selected students will be awarded a $5,000 scholarship and internship with the sponsoring company.

  • Hack in Place - Hackathon

    Hack in Place is a three-day online national designathon & hackathon for college students interested in learning practical software development skills by solving challenges centered around rebuilding our communities from the COVID pandemic. The hackathon will take place over Zoom from February 5-7.

  • Gilman Scholarship

    The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, providing them with skills critical to our national security and economic prosperity. To be eligible for the Gilman Program, applicants must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant during the time of application or provide proof that they will be receiving a Pell Grant during the term of their study abroad program or internship. The Institute of International Education has administered the program since its inception in 2001.

    The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) is looking for motivated and personable undergraduate students who are excited to introduce and support peers through the Illinois research experience.   • NCSA REU-INCLUSION

    National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) is seeking students to apply for a 10-week paid summer software-in-research training program. More than eight (8) women in science (i.e., physics and chemistry), math, computer science, and engineering fields will be selected for the 2023 – 2024 cohort. Up to $12,000 will be awarded to selected scholars: $5,000 for the fall and spring semesters (At least 10 hours/week doing research) and $7,000 for 10 weeks in the summer (Approximately 30-35 hours/week doing research).

    Areospace, electrical, computer, materials science, and nuclear engineering majors welcome to apply!

  • Truman Scholarship: An Opportunity for Illini Who Want to Change the World

    The prestigious Harry S. Truman Scholarship is available to College Juniors who are U.S. citizens with a record of strong academic work, leadership, community service, and commitment to a career in public service.  The scholarship awards $30,000 for use toward a graduate degree in public service fields.  Public service includes government, uniformed services, public interest organizations, non-governmental research or educational organizations, public and private schools, and other non-profit organizations.  Recipients of the scholarship are required to work in public service for three of the seven years following completion of a Foundation-funded graduate degree program; this is a non-negotiable condition of receiving funding.

    Application Deadline: The campus deadline for submission is November 6, 2023 at 12:00 p.m.

  • Goldwater Scholarship Information Sessions & Workshop

    If you are a sophomore or junior in a STEM field who has had meaningful research experiences and you plan on pursuing a Ph.D. in science, math, or engineering, the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship is for you!

    Eligibility
    Sophomores and juniors who in the upper quarter of their class (typically a minimum of 3.5 GPA) and who are U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or permanent residents are eligible to apply

    The Goldwater scholarship provides $7,500 per full academic year for undergraduate educational expenses.  Sophomores can expect to receive funds for a maximum of two years, while juniors can expect to receive funds for a maximum of one year.  All applicants MUST be committed to pursuing a Ph.D. in the research fields of mathematics, science, or engineering. 

    Students who plan to study medicine are eligible ONLY if they plan on a research career rather than a career as a medical doctor or veterinarian in a private practice.  Typical fields of study include, but are not limited to, applied science, astronomy, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, computer science, entomology, environmental science, genetics, geology, mathematics, microbiology, neurobiology, physics, zoology, and all fields of engineering.  Illinois may nominate up to 4 students for the Goldwater Scholarship.
