CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Peter M. Siegel of Iowa State University has been chosen to be the new chief information officer for the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, UI Provost Richard Herman announced today.

Linda Bauer is in charge of the interior design department for the UI Housing Division. She selects furnishings and furniture for the 5,000 student rooms, 1,000 apartments, and common area spaces, such as main lounges, the floor lounges, libraries, computer labs, fitness centers and dining rooms.

Mary Ann Gonka is assistant director for health professions and science career information at The Career Center.

After 20 years at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and 15 years as the director of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, Larry Smarr announced today that he has accepted a professorship at the University of California, San Diego. His wife, Janet Smarr, also has accepted a position at UCSD. They will begin their new positions July 1.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Richard Wheeler has accepted the position of dean of the UI Graduate College, as recommended by the chancellor and president.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Mary Jo Farrell, McHenry, has been elected president of the Mothers Association at the University of Illinois.

Technically, Al Wolfe's job title is Assembly Hall technician. But in reality, he has been the building electrician at Krannert Center for the Performing Arts since 1981.

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Susan Fowler has been named the new dean of the University of Illinois College of Education, pending approval by the UI Board of Trustees at its May meeting. Fowler is a UI professor of special education and associate dean for academic affairs in the college.
