  • BRING MATH Conference for undergraduates Oct. 5-6, 2023, Argonne National Laboratory (Lemont, IL; apply by June 19)

    BRING MATH (BRIdges for the Next Generation: MATHematical Science Research and Our Future) is a two-day conference for undergraduates interested in the mathematical sciences. It is a collaboration between IMSI and the Mathematics and Computer Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory, and will be hosted at Argonne, which is located in Lemont, Illinois.  The purpose of the conference includes exposing students and faculty to research in the mathematical sciences at Argonne, and helping them understand its real world applications; it is intended to increase students’ interest in the mathematical sciences and broaden their access to opportunities to pursue that interest, to help diversify the mathematical science community; it will educate students about summer opportunities available to them, and it will help students learn about career opportunities in the mathematical sciences and how to pursue them.

  • Boater Safety Training Workshop September 12-13, 2023 (Springfield, IL; register by Sept. 1)

    This two-day workshop is aimed at educating students and young professionals in fishery and wildlife fields on boater’s safety and boating skills. Day one of the workshop, September 12, 2023, participants will receive their Illinois boating license (a requirement for those born on or after January 1, 1998) by completing the in-class Illinois boating education course and exam. This course covers boater’s safety, equipment and requirements for boating, navigation, motorboats, registration and titling, emergencies, and Illinois boating laws. Day two, September 13th, 2023, participants will participate in five instructor-led, hands-on training modules including boat driving, boat towing, trailer knowledge, boat/trailer maintenance and repair, and rules and regulations explained by IL Conservation Police Officers. Groups of participants will rotate through these modules spending about 1.5 hours at each station with two-three instructors.

One of the main programs AFA facilitates is AFA Leaders Conference which brings college students from across the country to Kansas City from November 7-10, 2024 to connect with top companies, attend workshops, and listen to professional speakers.

    The 35th Annual ILMA Conference will be held March 12-14, 2020 at the iHotel & Conference Center in Champaign, IL. Scholarships are available to attend. Scholarship applications are due December 31, 2019.

    The 2023-2024 Rising TIDES (Toward an Inclusive, Diverse, and Enriched Society) Program supports students from underrepresented backgrounds in coastal and estuarine disciplines, with the goal of inspiring and motivating them to pursue careers in coastal and estuarine science and management. Apply by April 26, 2023.

    The Trail Apprentice Program provides scholarships for young leaders interested in a career in recreation, natural resource management, conservation, environmental studies, history, or a related field, to attend the PNTS virtual fall workshop for free and participate in career exploration, networking and educational opportunities amongst the National Trails community.
