  Hi my name is Jennifer Welker. I’m looking for Personal Assistants to help with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, toileting, meal preparation and occasional light housekeeping.

  Pay is $13.00 an hour. One shift is equal to one hour. Flexible times available for shifts. I am willing to work with you but I also need you to be flexible with me. I am dependent on public transportation and sometimes buses run late.

  Location is One-South on North Lincoln Avenue. This is off campus however there is a bus stop directly in front of One-South with buses running every 10 minutes.

  Graduation is quickly approaching, and it is the tradition of the School of Social Work to have a student responder during the convocation ceremony. The BSW student responder will be chosen by administration at the School of Social Work and will be based on submissions from the graduating BSW students.

  All graduating students are encouraged to submit a speech for review.  If you are interested in being this year's BSW student graduation speaker, please submit your speech to me by FRIDAY, APRIL 7th at 5PM.  You can send it by email (dietkus2@illinois.edu) or drop it by my office (Suite 2000). 

  Below are the speech guidelines:

  The BSW student speaker's speech should be 5-7 minutes in length.  Please discuss the following questions: What led you to Social Work? What has been your overall experience in the Social Work program? What inspirational words do you have for your fellow graduates?

  The School of Social Work convocation is scheduled for Saturday, May 13th at 1:30pm in Tryon Festival Theatre, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.  This is a ticketed event.   A request of up to 5 tickets can be made with a possibility of 1 or 2 extra tickets if they are available.  There will be a reception for graduates and their guests immediately following the graduation ceremony at the School of Social Work.  We look forward to celebrating this milestone with you and your guests.  Below you will find all the important information that you will need in order to participate in the upcoming May ceremony.

  Re:Search, the Undergraduate Literary Criticism Journal here at the University of Illinois has announced their call for proposals for the Spring 2019 issue!  Students from all majors and disciplines are encouraged to submit a proposal, provided that the work engages in critical analysis of a form of text or media, such as novels, movies, TV shows, video games, graphic novels, etc.  Papers accepted will be published in both the print and online versions of the journal, which is searchable on Google Scholar.

  Undergraduate Research Apprentice Program (URAP @ UI)

  Now in its third year of collaboration, the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) and the Graduate College offer the opportunity for first and second-year undergraduate students (including transfer students) to assist advanced graduate students (those who have completed all coursework requirements and are in the dissertation research stage) with their research projects. Through a one-on-one research experience with their graduate student mentor, undergraduate students will have the opportunity to learn what it means to do research, create knowledge, and produce scholarship. Undergraduate students will begin work with their mentors in Spring 2018.

  Undergraduate researchers will be given course credit (3 credit hours). Undergraduate students will attend regular weekly class meetings with OUR and Grad College instructors, as well as work one-on-one with their graduate mentors. Students will also complete a final project, consisting of a research poster, to be presented during “Undergraduate Research Week” sponsored by the Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR).

  If you have any questions about the application process, the office will be holding informational meetings on Friday October 13 and Wednesday October 18, from 3-3:50pm in Bevier Hall Room 166.   We are holding a Women's drive to collect pads, tampons, liners, and wipes which will then be donated to an organization called Helping Women Period.

  There will be a box in the social work student lounge until November 10th. I encourage you all to donate, even if you can only spare one or two items. (you don't have to donate an entire box, we accept individually wrapped items)

• Summer Institute for Languages of the Muslim World

  The Summer Institute for Languages of the Muslim World (SILMW) is an annual intensive language program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. We invite students to join the 9% of Americans who choose the unique and meaningful experience of learning a Less Commonly Taught Language (LCTL).  We believe that learning these languages will allow students to gain new global perspectives and set them apart as highly qualified individuals for international work and engagement.  Many of these languages have been designated by the United States government as critical to U.S. National Security and can assist students in securing international positions in governmental, development, and academic sectors.    

  This summer SILMW will take place from June 10 to August 2, 2019, and we will be offering Arabic, Persian, Swahili, Turkish and Wolof.  The program is 8 weeks and is divided into two, 4-week semesters. This is an immersive experience, complete with instruction, cultural activities, opportunities for language practice, conversation tables, cooking classes, movie nights, and more!  

  When you complete the program, not only will you be able to hold a conversation in a new language and have earned 10 credits (completing your language requirement), you will have had fun!

  The SKY Happiness Retreat is a 20-hour immersive, life-skills training and self-development program offered to thousands of students at more than 40 universities across the country, including Stanford, Ohio State, and MIT. Students gain stress-management and leadership skills, develop a personal daily breath-meditation practice, develop strategies for social connection, and engage in peer-driven service initiatives. Taught over 3 consecutive days, the retreat introduces the SKY meditation technique, a scientifically validated breathing practice that significantly increases one's well-being and calmness and reduces anxiety and stress markers. It's one of the coolest places to connect to yourself, make awesome friends and have fun!

  If you are a high-achieving junior and plan to attend graduate school after graduation in the arts, humanities or social sciences, but have concerns about being able to afford it, consider applying for the Beinecke Scholarship.

  The Beinecke Foundation is looking for students who have demonstrated superior standards of intellectual ability, scholastic achievement, and personal promise during their undergraduate years. The program seeks to encourage and enable highly motivated U.S. citizen juniors to pursue graduate studies in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Each scholar receives $4,000 immediately prior to entering graduate school and an additional $30,000 while attending graduate school. Preference is given to candidates for whom the awarding of significant financial aid would increase the likelihood of the student's being able to attend graduate school.

  The University of Illinois is one of a select few institutions that may endorse a candidate for the Beinecke Scholarship, and the National and International Scholarships Program has planned two sessions to assist students interested in earning this $34,000 award. The student body must reaffirm the fee, which was initiated by students over 20 years ago, every four years. That vote is coming up March 8 and 9, 2017. The outcome is key to the ability of Krannert Center, the Department of Dance, the Department of Theatre, and Lyric Theatre to continue to provide outstanding programming for students at this university at affordable prices.
