ISGS is seeking to hire up to two hourly research assistants to participate in ongoing research projects related to the development, characterization, and evaluation of materials and processes for carbon capture and utilization and the beneficial use of waste materials. Work up to 20 hours per week at $14 to $20 per hour depending on qualifications. Position is based in Champaign, Illinois.
Duties and Responsibilities: Participate in laboratory experiments and measurements to generate data and validate the performance of materials and processes for waste management and carbon reduction. Participate in material characterization. Assist in assembly, troubleshooting, operation, and maintenance of scientific equipment and facilities and laboratory experimental setups. Document and plot experimental data. Participate in experimental data analysis. Conduct literature searches. Contribute to preparing technical reports and documents.
Minimum Qualifications: Undergraduate or graduate student or individual with bachelor’s degree in chemical, environmental, materials, or mechanical engineering, chemistry, or related discipline. Ability to assemble experimental setups and perform troubleshooting and experiments. Ability to learn and apply new experimental and analytical skills. Good writing skills to present results and prepare technical reports and papers. Ability to effectively communicate and work with staff and others. The work of this position takes place in a chemical laboratory setting. Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
