The Illinois State Archaeological Survey (ISAS) seeks Archaeological Field Technicians to fill hourly field crew positions for large-scale Phase I, II, and III projects conducted out of our Central Illinois Field Station in Champaign. These are temporary (with potential of long term), full-time (40 hour/week), non-benefits-eligible, field/laboratory positions that may also involve some additional fieldwork, data processing, and specialized-analysis opportunities. Technicians will need to relocate to the Champaign area. In-house training in ISAS methods is provided, and lodging and per diem are paid on out-of-town projects.
All positions will require extensive physical exertion, work in challenging Midwestern weather, the ability to follow instructions and take legible and informative notes. Technicians will work with ISAS supervisors under the direction of a Field Station Coordinator and will be hired at three levels commensurate with education and previous field experience, with the possibility of advancement:
Field Technician I--$16/hour. BA or BS in any field, with archaeological or geological field school or equivalent experience.
Field Technician II--$17/hour. BA or BS in Anthropology, History or related field, with one or more years of archaeological experience beyond a field school or its equivalent experience.
Field Technician III--$18/hour. BA or BS in Anthropology, History or related field (MA preferred), and an ability to function independently or to assume limited supervisory tasks, and two or more years of previous archaeological experience.
To apply, please e-mail a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of three professional references to Patrick Green, Field Station Coordinator, at pmgreen@illinois.edu.
