ISGS is seeking to hire an individual to conduct laboratory analysis of geologic samples and participate in sample and data archiving activities. Work up to 20 hours per week at $17.00 to $20.00 per hour depending on qualifications. Position is based in Champaign, Illinois.
Duties and Responsibilities: Conduct portable X-ray fluorescence analysis of geologic samples. Prepare samples for analysis as needed. Plot and inspect analytical results and disseminate them to project geologists. Ensure laboratory safety and maintain analytical equipment. Engage in data archiving activities. Participate in sample photo-documentation. Assist with sample transport and storage.
Minimum Qualifications: Course work in geology or related discipline and familiarity with geochemical analysis. Demonstrated ability to excel in a fast-paced work environment under minimal supervision with a commitment to running a well-organized, clean, and productive lab. Strong organizational skills and ability to manage large data sets. Knowledge of standard laboratory procedures and safety protocols. Effective communication, personal relations, and collaboration skills. Experience with commonly employed software, databases, and project management tools (e.g., Excel, Access, ArcGIS).
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in geology or related discipline with laboratory management and digital curation work experience.
