The Illinois State Archaeological Survey (ISAS) seeks Archaeological Field Technicians to fill hourly field crew positions for large-scale Phase I, II, and III projects conducted out of our American Bottom Field Station in Collinsville, Illinois. These are full-time (40 hour/week), non-benefits-eligible, field/laboratory positions that may also involve some additional fieldwork, data processing, and specialized-analysis opportunities. Technicians will need to relocate to the St. Louis Metro east area. Training in ISAS methods is provided, and lodging and per diem are paid on out-of-town projects.
All positions will require extensive physical exertion, work in challenging Midwestern weather, the ability to follow instructions, and the ability to take legible and informative notes. Technicians will work with ISAS supervisors under the direction of a Field Station Coordinator and will be hired at three levels commensurate with education and previous field experience, with the possibility of advancement:
- Field Technician II--$17/hour. BA or BS in Anthropology, History or related field, with one or more years of archaeological experience beyond a field school or its equivalent experience.
