    SULI Program Overview

    The Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships (SULI) program encourages undergraduate students and recent graduates to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers by providing research experiences at the Department of Energy (DOE) laboratories. Selected students participate as interns appointed at one of 17 participating DOE laboratories/facilities. They perform research, under the guidance of laboratory staff scientists or engineers, on projects supporting the DOE mission.

  • Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL) Summer Program 2024

    The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Transportation Security Laboratory (TSL) Visiting Scientist Program is offering 10-week summer internships for undergraduate and graduate students in 2024.

    In order to be considered, undergraduate applicants must meet each of the following criteria:

    The Center for Energy Efficient Electronics Science  (E3S) combines a broad research and education approach to revolutionize two major fundamental components of digital information processing systems: the communications logic switch and the short-medium range communication of information between logic elements.

    The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) has a history of nurturing innovative concepts, and some of the best ideas have come from highly motivated, creative undergraduate students.  The Students Pushing INnovation (SPIN) Internship Program was launched to provide University of Illinois undergraduates with the opportunity to participate in hands-on research and contribute to interdisciplinary projects covering focused research areas in AI, Quantum Computing, Data and Computational Sciences, Health Sciences, and Physics and Astronomy, among others.

    The Information Trust Institute (ITI) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, part of the NSA Science of Security Lablet program, invites applications for a unique research experience for students. Selected applicants will spend eight weeks at ITI pursuing a research program of their own design, under the mentorship of ITI faculty and/or staff. The objective will be to advance research, which may be submitted for a poster session at the next HotSoS Science of Security Symposium. In addition to the research, the summer internship program will include weekly seminars and instruction regarding research issues such as ethics, research writing, presenting, creating posters, and grad school preparation.

    The program committee will select participants based on academic record and a 5-page proposal outlining the proposed research project. Both domestic and international students studying at a U.S. university are eligible to apply. Selected applicants will have lodging provided and receive a stipend and meal allowance. University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign students are not eligible housing or a meal allowance.
