  • Always Indigenous Media Living in Contradictions Webinar Series: Carbon Credits

Join us for our next installation of "Living In Contradictions," an Always Indigenous Media series to have hard conversations about things that matter.$370 million of Alaskan Carbon Credits have been sold. What are Carbon Credits? Where has that money gone to, and does Carbon Pricing like this really bring us closer to global sustainability and ecological balance? What is the impact on our lands, our waters, and our future?

In this webinar discussion, we will introduce the history of carbon markets and outline current debates about carbon off-sets, cap-and-trade, and carbon sequestration, among other international approaches to climate mitigation. We will discuss the impacts on frontline communities, the priorities of the Biden Administration’s First 100 Days, and the opportunities for the Green New Deal.

Join us on December 15th at 12 pm for a conversation about whether or not carbon markets are a false solution to climate change, and discuss other solutions to achieving climate justice!

  • CALL TO ACTION!

Yesterday the Bureau of Land Management announced their rushed lease sale in the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge kicking off 30 Days of Public Comment before the sale on January 6th.

These are the sacred lands where life begins - Iizhik Gwats’an Gwandaii Goodlit - and they are NOT FOR SALE.

We know the Trump Administration is morally corrupt, and is bulldozing through adequate public process before the next administration can step in, and so we are calling on protectors everywhere to make some noise and pressure our elected leaders around the world. Join us for 30 Days of Action to #DefendTheSacred and #ProtectTheArctic!

  • Film Screening: Drunktown's Finest

In the third installment of the First Nations Film and Video Festival, we feature a screening of Sydney Freeland’s coming-of-age drama Drunktown’s Finest (2014).

On the Navajo reservation in New Mexico, three young people—a college-bound, devout Christian; a rebellious and angry father-to-be; and a promiscuous and gorgeous trans person—search for love and acceptance.

As the three find their lives becoming more complicated and their troubles growing, their paths begin to intersect. With little in common other than a shared heritage, they soon learn that the key to overcoming their respective obstacles may come from the most unlikely of sources: each other.

Inspired by a 20/20 story that called her hometown of Gallup, NM, “Drunktown USA,” writer/director Sydney Freeland has constructed a moving and ultimately uplifting story about coming of age in the most challenging of circumstances while still finding hope, healing, and the chance for a better life.

The film will be followed by a discussion with Northern Arapaho filmmaker Ernest Whiteman III, Director of the First Nations Film and Video Festival.
