  • Apple Latinx Exchange

    The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) has partnered with Apple to bring engaging and varied experiences to college students.

    Apple will be hosting a career panel discussion on April 28, 2021, titled Latinx Exchange.

    Offered by their employee resource group Amigos@Apple, is open to undergraduate and graduate students interested in pursuing a technology career.

    The Latinx Exchange provides a forum for Apple Latinx employees to share their respective stories and offer advice to students in the early stages of their professional careers as they speak of the infinite possibilities in the world of technology.

    Software engineers who work for the Apple Cloud Services (ACS) organization will discuss challenges and inspirations as members of the tech field.

    The Apple Cloud Services team is responsible for crafting systems for Apple services such as iCloud, iTunes, Siri, Maps, and Apple’s software developers take great pride in providing user-friendly products.

    Students who would like to learn more about applying to work at Apple, will have the opportunity to speak with recruiters from the Apple Cloud Services team, and receive guidance in Apple’s hiring process.

    Additionally, students will hear about the importance of diversity and inclusion from Apple’s Latinx employees, and learn how commitment to this mission makes it  one of the top technology companies in the nation.

    The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) is hosting a research-based challenge for undergraduate students! The challenge is for students to develop a website on plastic recycling. Students will research their schools’ current process for recycling plastic and then design/create a strategy to make the process more efficient. Thorough submissions will include further research on the plastic recycling process, benefits of current recycling methods, and process improvement ideas.   • NSF Engineering Research Center for Advanced Technologies for Preservation of Biological Systems (ATP-Bio)

    The Advanced Technologies for the Preservation of Biological Systems (ATP-Bio), an NSF Engineering Research Center, is excited to announce its Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU)!

    The ATP-Bio REU is a 10-week research internship targeting STEM students nationwide, including community college students, who have not participated in prior research. Students will spend their summer doing exciting, cutting edge research to help “stop biological time” and radically extend the ability to bank and transport cells, aquatic embryos, tissue, skin, whole organs, microphysiological systems (“organs-on-a-chip”), and even whole organisms through a team approach to build advanced biopreservation technologies. ATP-Bio REU students will work at the University of Minnesota (UMN) or Mass General Hospital (MGH) in Boston, MA. Lodging and travel will be provided, along with a stipend.

    ATP-Bio aims to enhance the diversity of future scientific communities; we strongly encourage applications from underserved, underrepresented, and underresourced groups.

    The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, providing them with skills critical to our national security and economic prosperity. To be eligible for the Gilman Program, applicants must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant during the time of application or provide proof that they will be receiving a Pell Grant during the term of their study abroad program or internship. The Institute of International Education has administered the program since its inception in 2001.

    The application for the Illinois Cyber Security Scholars Program (ICSSP) for Fall 2023 is now open to Grainger College of Engineering undergraduate or graduate students who want to specialize in Cyber Security/Privacy, or School of Information Sciences graduate students in the MSIM or PhD program.

    Some NACME Board Companies and Non-Board Companies are interested in students majoring in engineering and computer science to apply for scholarship funds and internship opportunities.  These scholarships are open to NACME Scholars and Non-NACME Scholars.

  • The HACIA Scholarship Foundation is accepting applications through January 20, 2023

    The HACIA Scholarship & Education Foundation has established an undergraduate scholarship award for Hispanic students enrolled in an accredited university or college institution in curriculums related to the construction, architectural, or engineering fields of study.  Applicants should either reside in the Chicagoland area or attend a local Chicagoland area university.

    Since they have received a low number of applications for this year, the foundation has  extended the deadline to FRIDAY, JANUARY 20, 2023.
