    The application for Summer Undergraduate Research (SURF) at Purdue University is now open!

  • Undergraduate Research Assistants Needed: Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Center

    Project Description: Experimental investigation of an air-cooled condenser for power plants.  Lab is off-campus.  Tasks will include making basic modifications to the system, adjusting and measuring air velocities, and collecting data. The project is mostly related to heat transfer and fluid mechanics. Most of the work involves physical work in the lab and running the system.

  • Clare Boothe Luce Research Scholars

    Physics, chemistry, math, computer science, all engineering majors are welcome to apply 

    Awards are given to support women undergraduates seeking to study or teach science, mathematics, and/or engineering via the research pathway to graduate studies. More than eight (8) women in science (i.e., physics and chemistry), math, computer science, and engineering fields will be selected for the 2023 – 2024 cohort. Up to $12,000 will be awarded to selected scholars: $5,000 for the fall and spring semesters (At least 10 hours/week doing research) and $7,000 for 10 weeks in the summer (Approximately 30-35 hours/week doing research).

    Areospace, electrical, computer, materials science, and nuclear engineering majors welcome to apply!

    $5000 awards are given to women undergraduates in computer science, physics, and select engineering disciplines (Aerospace, Electrical, Computer, Materials Science, Nuclear) to do 10 weeks of research on campus in summer (Approximately 30 – 35 hours/week) or to defer to do research in the fall and spring semesters if needed.   • Entrepreneurial Research at UCONN

  • IBM-IL Discovery Accelerator Institute (IIDAI) Undergraduate Research Experience (URE)

    The IBM-Illinois Discovery Accelerator Institute (IIDAI) is a new model of academic-industry partnership designed to increase access to technology education and skill development to spur breakthroughs in emerging areas of technology to accelerate the discovery of solutions to complex global challenges.  Its goal is to enhance the STEM pipeline to graduate school and industry by offering undergraduate students, especially students from underrepresented groups in STEM, the opportunity to do research through the Undergraduate Research Experience (URE) Program.  Successful applicants will participate in one of the 18 research projects connected to the institute’s thrust areas, including Hybrid Cloud & AI, Materials Discovery, Quantum Computing, and Sustainability.

    Women, first-generation students, and members of underrepresented minority groups are encouraged to apply.

  • Undergraduate Research Assistant Needed: Selvin Group

    Project Description: Single molecule study of Kinesin and Dynein motors in vivo and in vitro. We will use fluorescence microscopy and cell biology techniques for studying the behavior of molecular motors of the cell. You will learn about the biology of molecular motors, optical microscopy and single molecule studies.

    The Center for Energy Efficient Electronics Science  (E3S) combines a broad research and education approach to revolutionize two major fundamental components of digital information processing systems: the communications logic switch and the short-medium range communication of information between logic elements.

    Every summer, CMaT provides its Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. The REU summer program funds 10-15 undergraduate students to work in CMaT labs at Georgia Tech (GT), University of Georgia (UGA), University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez (UPRM), and University of Wisconsin-Madison (UW).     - The Center for Mechanical Control of Chemistry (CMCC) is a new research center funded by the National Science Foundation

    - Each summer, starting with this coming summer, the Center will have a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program

  • Undergraduate Research Assistant Needed: Airconditioning and Refrigeration Center

    Project Description: Project involves heat transfer and fluid dynamics study of refrigerants (like R32, R1234zeE) in microchannel tubes (tube with a hydraulic diameter at a scale of 1mm) by experiments and theoretical analysis. We are looking for students who are eager to enter a top graduate school or want to have research experiences. In particular, students who want to do modeling in fluid dynamics and heat transfer. Students will start with reading papers and will eventually analyze data. After analyzing the data, the student should be able to use the knowledge in fluid or heat transfer courses to build a model. Students are expected to summarize information for a conference paper-level report. The time scale and result depend on the student's input.

    Requirements

    - Mechanical Engineering or Theoretical and Applied Mechanics student
    - Have taken an undergraduate level fluid dynamics course or an undergraduate level heat transfer course
    - Preferably with Matlab and Excel experience
    - Preferably knows Buckingham Pi Theorem
    - Preferably knows mass, momentum, and energy balance of a control volume in fluid dynamics and heat transfer
