    The Land Conservation Specialist will be expected to provide conservation assistance to agricultural and private landowners. This specialist will be a technical expert on all aspects of the Conservation Reserve Program, filling key needs to secure and improve conservation acres on the ground. Primary focuses will include data collection and consultation with agricultural producers about conservation plans for new CRP establishments, compiling CRP conservation options for prospective landowners, and providing technical information to landowners about mid-contract management practices necessary to maintain high-quality restorations throughout the duration of their CRP contracts. Land conservation specialists may also assist with annual Wetland Reserve Program/Wetland Reserve Easement (WRP/WRE) monitoring and administration as needed.

    As a Nature’s Classroom Institute (NCI) team member you will be joining a team passionate about the natural and built environment and be ready to pass that passion onto our visiting students. We teach with influence from the Montessori Method, allowing students to be hands on, explore and take responsibility, it is our job to guide and facilitate, allowing the students to learn from their surroundings and their peers. You will be working with groups of no more than 12 students, allowing them to lead the way through our many classes and simulations. Our day begins at 8am and ends at 9:30pm with plenty of breaks and meals in between.     Forestry technicians work in a variety of natural resource and recreation areas such as timber, wildlife, watershed, botany, silviculture, recreation, visitor services, and more. As a forestry aid or technician, you may survey the ecosystem, build and maintain trails, implement restorative and protective projects, manage the growth of trees and other vegetation, recruit and train volunteers, or work directly with the public.     PSGFS is offering a six-week program made up of two components: three weeks of hands-on research, whereby students will work with IRRI scientists and their teams to evaluate diverse rice genetic materials; and three weeks of a training course called “Rice: Research to Production” (RR2P) in which PSGFS students will interact with other RR2P participants from around the world to learn about the basics of rice research and production and gain an appreciation for the challenges and rewards of international collaboration.   • Outreach Educator Internship (June 2023-May 2024), Dunes Learning Center (Chesterton, IN)

    The Outreach team delivers programs in local school classrooms, natural areas, and online, to provide meaningful STEM experiences to thousands of students in Northwest Indiana. They help students create connections, build confidence, and develop a sense of place by providing opportunities to explore, ask questions, reflect, and work together.

    Our Outreach Educator Internship provides an opportunity for next-generation leaders to receive training and coaching to develop their naturalist, outdoor education, and resource interpretation skills and techniques. Outreach Educators work both as a team and independently to lead a variety of programs to a wide audience in diverse settings, often working closely with public school systems and partners throughout the year. In the summer, the outreach team leads day-camps based at IndianaDunes National Park’s historic Chellberg Farm and assists with residential camps. Outreach Educator Interns have opportunities to extend their professional development through workshops, in-services, and networking.

  • LTER Plant Community Ecology Internships (summer 2024), Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve (East Bethel, MN; due Feb. 19)

    The Cedar Creek LTER (Long Term Ecological Research Network) has several opportunities for students to work as plant community ecology interns. Most positions run from June through August, but some interns are needed as early as March, and some are needed through October. Your educational institution may be able to approve this internship, with an appropriate independent project, for any field biology requirement of your major. As a research intern, you will contribute to ongoing field experiments, may have the opportunity to initiate individual research, attend scientific seminars, and interact with professors, post-docs, and graduate students. If you are an undergraduate or a newly graduated student with a background or interest in biology, ecology, environmental science, botany, environmental education, or related field we encourage you to apply.

    Pay is $15.00 per hour. Typical workdays are eight hours Monday through Friday; however, some projects require weekend, early morning, and evening work. Most of the work you do will be out in the field, though a few jobs have indoor laboratory or computer components. On-site dormitory housing is available to rent.

    The National Great Rivers Research and Education Center (NGRREC) is seeking a Land Conservation Specialist to actively provide agricultural conservation assistance to USDA-NRCS in a multi-county region. The primary purposes of the position will be to provide conservation planning, outreach, and mid-contract management assistance to agricultural producers in order to leverage Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) and Wetland Reserve Easement (WRE) opportunities to achieve wildlife and water quality goals.
