A 14-week internship with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Bureau of Water – Northern Monitoring Unit in Des Plaines, IL.

HLR is looking for energetic individuals with an ecology background to work in our Environmental Department for the summer. Work includes learning native plant identification, herbicide application, and mechanical control of wetlands, prairies, lakes. Interns must be able to work at least 3 months (May-August), start and end dates are flexible with university schedules. Position would be based out of our Elgin, Illinois office. This position will be flexible, with the potential for up to 40 hours per week based in Champaign-Urbana with frequent trips to Clinton Lake and Newton Lake. Weekend work will be required to collect data at angling tournament weigh-ins. Can only work 40 hours per week during the summer months (and must be enrolled for less than 3 hours during the summer semester). Limited to 28 hours per week (20 hours recommended) during the academic year.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate Office of University Programs sponsors a 10-week summer internship program for students majoring in homeland security related science, technology, engineering and mathematics (HS-STEM) disciplines. The Illinois Natural History Survey is seeking a summer intern for The Larimore Stream Ecology Internship. This internship will provide the selected intern with knowledge and real-world experience to prepare them for a graduate program in stream or aquatic ecology.
