  RED STEM NATIVE LANDSCAPES, INC is hiring stewards to care for its native plant landscapes.   Candidates must have at least one year working with native plants in the Midwest and at least two years of experience caring for plants.  Stewards must have strong attention to detail, ability to work independently and in teams, ability to interact with clients and represent Red Stem to the public.  Stewards work outdoors maintaining a variety of native plant gardens throughout the Chicago area and need to be able to: identify common native plants, weed, plant, mulch and lift 50 lbs.  Ability to drive a pick-up truck preferred but not necessary.  This is a part-time (20 Hours per week) seasonal position through the end of October, 2019.  Full-time positions will be available April, 2020.  Pay is $16 - $18/HR depending on experience.   www.redstemlandscapes.com

  Primary Position Function:  Assist graduate students with field work collecting pollinators and agricultural pests from prairie restorations in the agricultural landscape in Central Illinois.

  Duties and Responsibilities:  Travel to and from field sites around Illinois; assist with setup and checking of pollinator traps in the field; assist with vegetation surveys; participate in visual pest surveys.

  Qualifications:  Good judgement and interpersonal skills. Requires significant physical exertion (including carrying 40 or more pounds of gear) and meticulous data recording.  Candidate must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions, possibly weekends. A valid driver’s license is required.

  Required Qualifications:

  -Undergraduate in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences (NRES) at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

  -Ability to hike long distances on uneven terrain

  -Willingness to work 10 hour days in inclement weather

  Desired Qualifications:

  -Experience GPS mapping with Trimble units or ArcCollector

  -ArcGIS experience

  -Illinois plant ID skills

  -CPR / first aid certification

   

  Work Schedule: May 28 – Aug 2, 2018. Work will be done on a 5-days-on/4-days-off schedule or a similar extended on/off schedule.

  Compensation: $10/hr

  Work Location: Shawnee National Forest and surrounding areas. Housing will be provided in southern Illinois.
