  • Engineering Design Council Funding Proposals Due September 19

    Welcome back! It is that time of year; many of our groups have had amazing sucessses and we are looking forward to supporting you again in 2022-23. Engineering Design Council is now officially requesting proposals for multi-disciplinary project support for the 2022-2023 academic year.

    The proposal deadline is September 19th at 11:59 PM. Late submissions will not be accepted.

    The IBM-Illinois Discovery Accelerator Institute is a new model of academic-industry partnership designed to increase access to technology education and skill development to spur breakthroughs in emerging areas of technology including hybrid cloud and AI, quantum computing, accelerated materials discovery, and sustainability to accelerate the discovery of solutions to complex global challenges. Leading scientists and engineering from both IBM and The Grainger College of Engineering are partnering on a variety of projects.

  • Rolls-Royce @ Expo

    Rolls-Royce will be at the Engineering EXPO next Monday and Tuesday at the Illini Union.  If you would like to stop by and drop off a resume, we would be happy to speak with you about our co-op program, upcoming summer internship opportunities as well as full-time openings.

  • Fresh Check Day

    Fresh Check Day, is an uplifting mental health promotion and suicide prevention event that includes interactive expo booths, peer-to-peer messaging, support of multiple campus departments and groups, free food, entertainment, and great prizes and giveaways. Fresh Check Day aims to create an approachable and hopeful atmosphere where students are encouraged to engage in dialogue about mental health and helps to build a bridge between students and the mental health resources available on campus, in the community, and nationally.

  • NCSA is offering two summer programs

    • Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) The Future of Discovery: Training Students to Build and Apply Open Source Machine Learning Models and Tools (FODOMMaT) program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) is seeking students to apply for a 10-week paid summer training experience in machine learning. Successful applicants will work full-time on one of cutting-edge FODOMMaT research projects that develop open-source machine learning models and tools and use them to solve real-world problems.
    • The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) has a history of nurturing innovative concepts, and some of the best ideas have come from highly motivated, creative undergraduate students. The SPIN program will be accepting applicants for the Summer 2023 session starting from January 23, 2023

  • GFX Now Hiring Students for New Student Registration 2025!

    GFX is now hiring engineering undergraduate students for New Student Registration (NSR) Assistants, Group Leaders, and Student Directors for summer 2025! On-campus and limited online positions are available. NSR student positions support new first-year and transfer students as they connect with fellow incoming students, prepare to meet with an Academic Advisor, and register for the Fall 2025 semester. This is a great opportunity for students who are looking for a summer job with some flexibility where they'll be able be a part of a welcoming team and develop their communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.     The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) is now accepting submissions for the 2017 Undergraduate Research Symposium (URS), set for Thursday, April 27. The URS is the signature event of Undergraduate Research Week (April 23-29), and brings together students, faculty, and staff from all disciplines on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus, as well as corporate partners and sponsors, to learn more about undergraduate research and its potential to change the world.   • NSF REU on the Internet of Things at UCF

    The Computer Science Department at the University of Central Florida (Orlando, FL) will hold a 10-week 2017 Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) on the Internet of Things. REU students will be trained in research-based theory and applications of the technologies used in this fast-moving interdisciplinary field. The REU students will join well-established research groups under the close supervision of faculty with expertise in security, privacy, data analytics, healthcare simulations, and social computing.

    REU Program Dates: May 22 - July 28, 2017

    Eligibility

    Sophomore, junior, or senior undergraduates
    Majors: computer science, computer, electrical, mechanical engineering and information technology
    Must be US citizens or permanent residents
    Minimum overall GPA of 2.7

  • UC Irvine Center for Complex and Active Materials Research Experiences for Undergraduates

    The CCAM Materials REU is an 8-week program with a focus on research to discover new materials and novel functionalities through structural design and molecular-scale control. CCAM REU program will support up to 18 participants in: (1) a one-week boot camp introducing fundamentals of MSE concepts to provide baseline knowledge to succeed on their REU project; (2)  design and execution of interdisciplinary materials research projects: (3) preparation for applying to advanced degree programs in the physical sciences and engineering; and 4) seminars and enrichment activities to build students’ skills to be successful in graduate programs.

    Engineering Career Services and Engineering EXPO will offer Grainger Engineering students access to 170+ companies actively hiring interns and new college graduates at the Spring 2024 Engineering Career Fair.  The career fair is one of the primary avenues through which our talented students find both internships and post-graduation employment opportunities.

  • Call for 2024 WIE Orientation Volunteers

    Apply for a volunteer leadership role at Women in Engineering’s 2024 WIE Orientation, which will take place from August 21 – 22, 2024.

    Before orientation, WIE mentors will help facilitate a series of virtual group mentoring sessions with first-year and transfer students to help prepare them before coming to campus.  During orientation, WIE mentors will help WIE staff facilitate orientation activities and logistics.

    Need funding to present your work at a conference?

    The campus-wide Illinois Office of Undergraduate  Research (OUR) provides awards up to $350 for undergraduate students to travel to professional conferences to present their research posters and/or papers. These awards are meant for students who will present their work.

    Eligibiilty

    - Students must be in good academic standing during the term the award is received
    - Students graduating in December can apply for and may receive an ward for travel during the following spring semester

    - Students must include in the application: conference dates and location, evidence that conference participation has been confirmed, itemized estimated expenses (or actual expenses for recently completed travel), and possible (or actual) support from mentors and departments

  • Southern and Central Illinois Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (SCI-LSAMP) Program

    The Southern & Central Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation is sponsored by the National Science Foundation designed to increase retention, graduation, and success of students from Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, Native American/Alaskan, Pacific Islander racial and ethnic groups that are historically underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields. This program offers holistic support and individualized mentoring to guide students through the completion of their bachelor's degree and into graduate degree programs or careers in STEM.

  • Research Experience with NCSA

    Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) The Future of Discovery: Training Students to Build and Apply Open Source Machine Learning Models and Tools (FODOMMaT) program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) is seeking students to apply for a 10-week paid summer training experience in machine learning. Successful applicants will work full-time on one of cutting-edge FODOMMaT research projects that develop open-source machine learning models and tools and use them to solve real-world problems. The program will be held on-site at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and REU FoDOMMaT fellows will work in person during Summer 2025.
