  • The NSF-funded Materials REU at the University of California, Irvine

    The NSF-funded Materials REU at the University of California, Irvine, is an 8-week, fully funded, summer research program with a focus on the design, synthesis, and characterization of new materials with novel functionalities for energy, healthcare, aerospace, and environmental sustainability.

    The program is intended for rising junior and senior undergraduates who are interested in attending graduate school in a STEM field. Students from underrepresented groups in STEM are particularly encouraged to apply.

  • FBI Counterterrorism and Forensic Science Research Unit (CFSRU) Fellowship

    The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Counterterrorism and Forensic Science Research Unit (CFSRU) provides technical leadership for the FBI as well as for other law enforcement and intelligence agencies through applied research and development.

    As a participant with the Counterterrorism and Forensic Science Research Unit’s (CFSRU) Visiting Scientist Program (VSP), you will have an opportunity to enhance your professional development and increase your research capabilities and contributions by participating in forensic research initiatives utilizing state-of-the-art equipment under the mentorship of CFSRU scientists in Quantico, Virginia.  The VSP will expose you to a research environment in a high security government facility and provide an opportunity to perform research in areas of interest unique to law enforcement and national security.

  • The Cornell University 2013 Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Summer Undergraduate Research Program: June 3 - August 9, 2013; Application Deadline: March 1, 2013

  • 2024 NNSA PATH Scholarships

    The Program Award for Technical and Higher-Education (PATH), sponsored by National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), offers scholarships to students from Minority Serving Institutions pursuing a technical certificate, associate, bachelor, or graduate degree in a science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM)-discipline that supports the critical needs of the Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE).  The NNSA PATH Scholarship will provide financial support to students who demonstrate a desire to pursue a STEM-focused academic pathway that applies to the NNSA Mission Directorate; expose students to STEM-related research taking place at community colleges, undergraduate and graduate colleges and universities; connect students to other NNSA MSI-supported students, faculty, and alumni; and expose students to STEM-based careers at NNSA and the Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE).

  • 2024 REU FoDOMMaT Program

    FoDOMMaT (The Future of Discovery: Training Students to Build and Apply Open Source Machine Learning Models and Tools) is a 10-week on-site summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA).  FoDOMMaT will bring together 10 undergraduate students, particularly those who would otherwise lack such an opportunity, to work on cutting-edge projects from May 20 – July 26, 2024.  The program will begin with a week-long training where students are taught machine learning (ML) / deep learning (/DL) methods.  They will work for the remaining nine weeks on a specific research project under the guidance of a pair of research mentors, one from the project’s research area and the other with expertise in machine learning.

  • ExxonMobil LOFT Fellowship

    ExxonMobil, one of the world’s largest publicly traded International oil & gas companies, has partnered with the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) to create fellowships in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) for Hispanic college students. Through HHF’s Latinos On Fast Track (LOFT) program, ExxonMobil seeks to nurture motivated college students across the country, with a passion for Engineering and Science.

    Selected students will be exposed to a top quality company by participating in this signature mentoring program. Each student will be paired up with one of ExxonMobil engineers/scientists to learn how their knowledge is applied in a corporate setting.

    Fellowship Components

    The Fellowship consists of five 1-hour meetings with a mentor (virtual or in person), participation in the Harvard-certified ExxonMobil mentee program (on-line), an exclusive curriculum to introduce Fellows to the organization and company career opportunities, and a $1,000 educational grant. In addition, there exists the possibility to interview for ExxonMobil positions (internships/full-time) upon successful completion of the Fellowship.

    Fellowship Requirements

    This opportunity is highly competitive and open to sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students attending a 4-year college or university.
    - Fellowship applicants with the following majors will be given priority:
    - Mechanical Engineering
    - Chemical Engineering
    - Civil Engineering
    - Electrical Engineering

  • 2017 Syracuse University LSAMP Summer Research Program

    The Syracuse University Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Research Program is a paid summer research opportunity that provides undergraduate scholars with the opportunity to work with distinguished faculty and staff as well as network with others in their field of interest. Student scholars have the opportunity to conduct and present research over a ten-week period under the direction of a faculty research mentor at Syracuse University.
    Through this program, scholars will gain theoretical knowledge and practical training in academic research and scientific experimentation. The SU LSAMP research program was developed to aid in the retention of traditionally underrepresented groups in the sciences, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

    What are the benefits?
    - $3400 research stipend
    - Round-trip travel stipend of up to $150*
    - Free double occupancy room on the SU campus
    - State-of-the-art laboratories, libraries, computers, etc. Meals provided during group events

  • Cornell U. Astronomy Research Experience

    This flexible 10-week summer 2013 program offers undergraduate students an opportunity to work on individual research projects with Cornell faculty and research staff on a wide range of topics in planetary science, astronomical instrumentation, astrophysics, general relativity, and cosmology.

     The assistantship includes a $6,400 stipend and relocation funds up to $1000.

    What: The Community College Internships (CCI) and Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships (SULI) programs are now accepting applications for spring 2023! These programs, sponsored and managed by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science’s Office of Workforce Development for Teachers and Scientists (WDTS) in collaboration with DOE national laboratories, provide internship opportunities at national labs for college students and recent graduates.

  • LAS Blockbuster Courses!

    LAS blockbuster courses are exciting, co-taught, multidisciplinary courses for advanced undergraduates who want to learn how to apply content area knowledge in humanities, social science, and science to address real-world problems. Students will work with other highly-motivated students and outstanding professors from outside their majors to gain precisely the kinds of skills that employers are looking for.

  • 2022 Penn State Drawdown Scholars Program

    Penn State is partnering with Project Drawdown to explore and enhance “the most comprehensive plan ever proposed to reverse global warming.” The Drawdown mission seeks to clarify a positive solutions-oriented path ahead for action on climate change. By working with researchers from across the world, the team has already identified 100 of the most substantive solutions to address climate change.

    Program Details:

    • Program dates: June 1 – Aug. 4, 2022
    • Student stipend: $600/week
    • On-campus housing provided
    • Travel reimbursement up to $400

    Application Deadline: February 15, 2022

    • Open to undergraduate students in any major who are interested in Drawdown’s mission to reverse global warming
    • Must be citizens or permanent residents of the U.S. or U.S. territories if not a full-time student at Penn State
    • Must be at least 18 years of age with plans to graduate in December 2022 or later
    • U.S. students from groups traditionally under-represented in STEM, including women, underrepresented minorities, LGBTQ+ students, first-generation college students, individuals with disabilities, and veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.
