    The Andrew W. Mellon Summer Academy at the Art Institute of Chicago is currently accepting applications until March 1st, 2020.

    This is a one-week intensive aimed at college freshmen, sophomores, and non-traditional undergraduate students with two or more years of coursework remaining. Participants receive a small per diem (daily stipend) for the week, plus all expenses are paid including food, travel, and sleeping arrangements. This program is funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, which is dedicated to creating opportunities for historically underrepresented groups in the museum field.     The 2020 program will have a thematic focus on curating Indigenous arts and arts of Africa & the diaspora.

    Participants who are chosen for the Summer Academy will be eligible to apply for an exclusive Mellon Undergraduate Curatorial Fellowship (MUCF). This is a two-year commitment at the Art Institute of Chicago where students will be paired with a museum mentor to receive in-depth curatorial training.   • NIDA Summer Research Internship Program - applications due Feb 10

    Program:

    The NIDA Summer Research Internship Program supports all students with a focus on increasing underrepresented populations in drug abuse research. Through this program, undergraduate students age 18 years and older are introduced to the field of drug abuse and addiction research by participating in research internships with NIDA’s distinguished scientists at universities across the United States. Students work with leading scientists for eight weeks during the summer. The internship may include laboratory experiments, data collection, data analysis, formal courses, participation in lab meetings, patient interviews, manuscript preparation, library research, and literature reviews. In addition, it is expected that each intern will deliver a formal presentation on his/her research project at the end of the internship

    The NIDA Summer Research Internship Program is in its 24th year. Since the program’s inception in 1997, more than 1,160 students have gained experience in drug abuse and addiction research.

    Eligibility:

    This program provides summer research internships for all undergraduate students 18 years and older, with a focus on recruiting students underrepresented in the biomedical, behavioral, and clinical sciences (American Indian/Alaska Native, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander) Graduating 2020 college seniors are eligible to apply.

    Applicants must be at least 18 years old by May 31, 2020 and must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents of the United States (No Exceptions).

    Individuals who have already participated in the NIDA Summer Research Internship Program are no longer eligible to apply.

  • SAR Internship Announcement

    The deadline is approaching (March 1) for the internship program at SAR's Indian Arts Research Center.

    This is a great opportunity for any recent graduates or entry-level museum professionals! Through this program, interns gain experience via hands-on projects in collections management, registration, and educational programming. Time is also allocated to further support interns’ professional goals and independent research interests. Two nine-month internships, which run from September through May, are offered each year. These positions include salary, housing, book allowance, travel reimbursement, and attendance to a professional conference. One internship is open to an Indigenous applicant from the US or Canada, and one internship is open to any US or Canadian citizen meeting the application requirements.

  • Great Lakes Native American Medical School Applicant Workshop

    Greetings,

    The University of Illinois College of Medicine Urban Health Program is partnering with the Michigan State University College School of Human Medicine for their annual Great Lakes Native American Medical School Applicant Workshop being held March 26 – 28 in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  The partnership includes several other health colleges, primarily in states with large Native American populations such as Minnesota, Michigan & Wisconsin.  The workshop is a multi-day experience geared for pre-med Native American students who plan to apply to medical school within the next two years.  This experience will provide students with the opportunity to meet various faculty and staff to learn tips for when their applying to medical school, research, funding, as well as career development opportunities.  The deadline for all applications will be on February 17th with the admissions decision by February 28th.

    AISES is unveiling it’s Full-Circle Mentoring opportunity for up to fifty AISES members. This year-long program will match and support participants in one-on-one academic and career mentorship. Currently, mentorship matches are only available to college and professional members.

     

    As part of the Full-Circle Mentorship program and with AISES staff coordination, participants will co-create a mentorship plan, check-in periodically, and are encouraged to participate in webinars to enhance their mentorship relationship. Applications will be reviewed and accepted on a first come, first serve basis until May 31, 2020. Mentorship matches will be made by the end of June 2020.

    Native Knowledge 360° (NK360°) is the National Museum of the American Indian’s national initiative to inspire and support transformative teaching and learning about Native Americans. This free, three–part webinar series is designed for education professionals who are new to incorporating more complete narratives about Native American histories, cultures, and contemporary lives into their teaching.     The Impact of Covid-19 in Healthcare and Public Health Forum (Thursday, 10/15, @ 3:00-4:15pm) is the first part of the Health Professions Forum (HPF).  A collaboration with Liberal Arts and Sciences, Applied Health Sciences, and Career Services, HPF is a collection of healthcare-focused programs designed to help students explore careers and connect with professionals working in hospitals, labs, education, non-profits, and other healthcare settings. During this first event, attendees can learn about the various career roles that focus on addressing a wide range of health topics that impact communities and populations, especially during this pandemic.
