  • 2013 Biophysics Summer Course

    Applications are still being accepted

    Session Dates:  May 14 - August 1, 2013

    An 11-week scholarship program hosted by the Universtiy of North Carolina at Chapel Hill introduces undergraduate minority students, disadvantaged students and students with disabilities to the field of biophysics.  The Course is designed to reflect a graduate-level research program. The program includes lectures, seminars, lab work, team-building activities, and field trips.  Read more for further information.

    Underrepresented minority undergraduate or graduate students, studying at research institutions, who are interested in the computational sciences, are especially encouraged to apply. 

    The Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) Scholars Program is a year long program for U.S. students from underrepresented groups in computational sciences.  The program provides opportunities to learn more about high performance computing and XSEDE resources, network with cutting-edge researchers and leaders, and belong to a cohort of student peers to establish a community of academic leaders.  Please read more for further information.

  • UC Berkeley's 7-Day Explorations in Science Research Workshop

  • The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program

    Application process begins in August - Deadline is January 15, 2014!

    Funded by a $1.6 billion grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, GMS was established in 1999, as a twenty year commitment, to provide greater access and opportunity to higher education for outstanding students from underrepresented backgrounds (1,000 selected each year; 20,000 in 20 year commitment). 

     

  • Princeton Engineering Graduate Symposium

    The School of Engineering & Applied Science will host the Princeton Engineering Graduate Symposium (PEGS) on October 17-19, 2013 to encourage underrepresented minority students who are eligible for graduate study to apply to Princeton.  

    The program is rooted in Princeton’s commitment and desire to attract and train a diverse set of science, engineering, and technology leaders. The three-day visitation program offers undergraduates the opportunity to explore engineering fields at Princeton. The visit includes interacting with faculty and alumni, poster sessions, and seminars about graduate study. Princeton will provide selected participants with transportation, lodging, and meals.   • Illinois Club Scholarships

    The Illinois Club is now accepting scholarship applications online for next year.  The awards offered are:

    • Isabelle Purnell Education Awards - $2,000 each, three to five awards
    • Make-A-Difference Awards - $2,000 each, three to five awards
    • Susan T. Haney Social Work Award - $3,000
    • Judith Life Ikenberry Fine Arts Award - $3,400

    You will be considered for all awards for which you are eligible.

    The Application Deadline is November 1, 5:00PM

    You will be notified via e-mail when your application is received.  In December or January you will be e-mailed again about the status of your application.  If you are a semifinalist you will be interviewed in late January or early February, with notification of all awards occurring shortly thereafter.  Study Abroad student interviews may be Skyped.  The winners will be feted at a Scholarship Awards Brunch in early March.

  • SUPERB-ITS REU at UC Berkeley

    UC Berkeley's Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences is proud to offer our SUPERB-ITS: Summer Undergraduate Program in Engineering Research at Berkeley-Information Technology for Sustainability, pending renewal from the National Science Foundation.

    We are targeting high-potential rising juniors and seniors who have a strong interest in graduate studyand who are either socio-economically disadvantaged, low-income, first-generation college students, or have limited access to undergraduate research in their undergraduate institution. Over half of the EECS faculty have mentored SUPERB students during the past twenty summers and we are proud of the achievements of these students. One of them is now a faculty member here at UC Berkeley. A very high percentage of former SUPERB students have earned graduate degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science.

    As a participant in this program, students will be eligible for a graduate school application fee waiver to our Berkeley graduate school programs.

    SUPERB-ITS  June 8 - August 9, 2014. The deadline to apply is February 15, 2014.

  • Cargill Global Scholars- Deadline March 1, 2014

    The Cargill Global Scholars Program provides financial support ($2,500 for up to three years) and leadership development opportunities through seminars, networking events, and a one-on-one mentoring program. These enrichment activities have been designed to help foster and enhance the Cargill Global Scholars’ leadership potential and critical thinking skills, and equip them with the tools necessary for becoming global leaders and decisions makers.

    Scholarships will be awarded to talented, high performing university students who demonstrate exemplary academic achievement and leadership potential and study in a field relevant to Cargill’s world of food, agriculture and risk management.

    Who Can Apply?

    Applicants to the Cargill Global Scholars program must:

    1. Be a citizen or permanent legal resident of Brazil, China, India, Russia or the United States.
    2. Attend a partner university in the country of citizenship or permanent legal residency
    3. Be a first or second year university student
    4. Demonstrate high academic performance
    5. Demonstrate leadership potential

    Preference will be given to applicants who:

    1. Demonstrate financial need
    2. Specialize in fields of study that are identified as preferred fields (see each country’s guidelines)
    3. Are from a disadvantaged or underrepresented group within their country

  • Naval Research Internships- Jan. 6, 2014 deadline

    NAVAL RESEARCH INTERNSHIPS
    The deadline for the online application process is January 6, 2014 for the Naval Research Enterprise Internship program, a 10-week summer research opportunity for undergraduate rising sophomores, juniors, seniors, and graduate students. Interns work under the guidance of a mentor at a participating Navy laboratory. Stipends are highly competitive.
