    The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) sponsored Biomedical Engineering Summer Internship (BESIP) is for undergraduate biomedical engineering students who have completed their junior year of college. The 10-week program, under the guidance of Dr. Robert Lutz, BESIP Program Director, is scheduled from June 5, 2017 to August 11, 2017. The internship will allow rising senior bioengineering students to participate in cutting-edge biomedical research projects under the mentorship of world-class scientists in NIH laboratories in Bethesda, MD.

  • Undergraduate Research Internship (Center For Energy Efficient Electronics Science)

    Application for 2017 E3S REU Now Available!

    The Center for Energy Efficient Electronics Science  (E3S) combines a broad research and education approach to revolutionize two major fundamental components of digital information processing systems: the communications logic switch and the short-medium range communication of information between logic elements. 

    The 2017 E3S Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program will be from June 3 - August 5, 2017 with projects in exciting research areas: nanoelectronics, nanomechanics, nanophotonics, and nanomagnetics.

    Project Description:

    Android Programming: Our group is doing some research related to analyzing data collected from keyboard applications on Android. The undergraduate student's responsibility for this project will include browsing the most popular Android keyboard applications, compiling a list of unique features and then creating the Android keyboard application with selected features.

    Web programming: The undergraduate student will be working with the backend services that supports Code Hunt: (http://www.codehunt.com).   • Summer Research Opportunities in Computing (SROC)

    Indiana University-Summer Research Opportunities in Computing (IU-SROC) is a 10-week summer research program focused on the fields of computer science, bioinformatics, human-centered computing, computer vision, health informatics, security, cloud computing, interactive intelligent systems, text mining, and high performance computing.

    The 2017 IU-SROC will be from May 19 to July 28, 2017. Successful applicants will receive $5000 stipend, plus housing and a meal plan. Students will be working in the lab with a faculty and PhD student mentor and will participate in professional development and social activities.

  • Undergraduate Research Assistant Needed: Motion Strategy and Virtual Reality Laboratory

    Project Description: There are two possible projects - (i) designing and implementing robotic swarms with high-level specifications on their dynamics. The focus is on quantifying the sensing/actuation/computational requirements needed to generate different swarm dynamics. (ii) developing high-level, verifiable specification languages for the design and control of robotic systems, eventually contributing to ROS (Robot Operating System).

    The focus of both projects is on simple mobile robots for personal/household use.

  • Undergraduate Research Assistant Needed: Civil and Environmental Engineering

    Project Description: 

    The research project aims to determine which farm field management techniques are best at mitigating agricultural nitrogen losses associated with fertilization. To accomplish this, we collect and analyze air, water, and soil samples from fields utilizing different field management (fertilization rates, tillage, and cover cropping).

    Requirements

    The student should be interested and capable of spending time in the field. Field duties will include carrying equipment; installing sampling systems; collecting air, water, and soil samples; and maintaining detailed field notes. The student will need to have at least one morning each week available to dedicate to field work.

    *Preference for students within Civil and Environmental Engineering and/or those considering graduate school

  • NSF REU on the Internet of Things at UCF

    The Computer Science Department at the University of Central Florida (Orlando, FL) will hold a 10-week 2017 Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) on the Internet of Things. REU students will be trained in research-based theory and applications of the technologies used in this fast-moving interdisciplinary field.   • Undergraduate Research Assistants Needed: Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Center

    Project Description: Experimental investigation of an air-cooled condenser for power plants.  Lab is off-campus.  Tasks will include making basic modifications to the system, adjusting and measuring air velocities, and collecting data. The project is mostly related to heat transfer and fluid mechanics. Most of the work involves physical work in the lab and running the system.

    The campus-wide Illinois Office of Undergraduate  Research (OUR) provides awards up to $350 for undergraduate students to travel to professional conferences to present their research posters and/or papers. These awards are meant for students who will present their work.

    Eligibiilty

    - Students must be in good academic standing during the term the award is received

    Project Description: The primary project will be on bio-mechanical testing of microorganisms. Student will be responsible for maintaining the organisms, assisting with experimentation and analysis.

    - Students who have taken fundamental courses in mechanics (solid/fluid) preferred.
    - Expected to spend at least 6 hours weekly on research (flexible, depending on student's schedule)

  • Summer Research Experience at National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA)

    Incubating a New Community of Leaders Using Software, Inclusion, Innovation, Interdisciplinary and OpeN-Science (INCLUSION) is seeking students to apply for 10-week paid summer software-in-research training program. Successful applicants will work full-time on one of socially-impactful INCLUSION research projects that develop and use open source software.

  • Interdisciplinary Water Science and Engineering NSF REU

    Application Deadline March 17, 2017 (5:00 PM, EST)

    Applications are invited from qualified and motivated undergraduate students (rising sophomores, juniors and seniors) from all U.S. colleges/universities to participate in a 10-week (May 21-July 28, 2017) summer research in interdisciplinary water science and engineering at Virginia Tech. U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents are eligible to apply. The research program is funded through the National Science Foundation – Research Experiences for Undergraduates (NSF REU) program. The 10-week internship will begin on May 21, 2017 (arrival day) at Virginia Tech and end on July 29, 2017 (departure day). The research internship includes a stipend of $500/week, housing (two persons per room), meals, and travel expenses*. We have already graduated 85 excellent undergraduate researchers, representing 55+ institutions in the United States from our prior sites during 2007-09, 2010- 2013 and 2014-16.

    Ten students will be recruited for this program and two of them will travel to India for research. The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM) is the host institution in India.
