The Research Assistant (Ecologist) will work with the INR-Portland Director to assure the BLM inventory program is successful, and that vegetation plot and training data are integrated initially across southeastern Oregon, and eventually across the state.

This project would create a baseline inventory of noxious weeds that could be used for future weed management plans.

Assist with other field investigations in central Illinois, including outcrop studies and hand augering. Assist with describing sample sets and cores from ISGS archives. Assist with the compilation of 1:24,000 surficial geology map, cross sections, bedrock topography map, and drift thickness map using ArcGIS. Assist with data compilation and location of near-surface materials based on water well records, soil reports, engineering borings, geologic reports, and field notes. Perform laboratory analysis (magnetic properties, carbonates) on samples of glacial deposits from the mapping area.
