    ISGS is seeking to hire a Visiting Scientific Specialist, Environmental Assessments Researcher (up to 5 depending on applicant pool and programmatic need) to perform sponsored research on environmental assessments.  The assessments will involve evaluating potential environmental and geologic hazards and risks for Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) infrastructure improvement projects. IDOT's infrastructure projects range in size and can involve anything from a single property to hundreds of properties across many miles of existing or future highways.  IDOT uses the assessments completed by ISGS to protect workers and public safety, to reduce IDOT's liability, and to minimize delays by operating in an efficient and cost-effective manner.     The position within the organization performs complex work related to environmental concerns for all phases of site development and ensures compliance with wetland regulations in the Watershed Development Ordinance (WDO). This position is under moderate supervision. This person serves as a subject expert in wetland science and management (ecology, delineation, regulation, mitigation, and restoration), providing scientific and technical expertise to commission, County staff, local jurisdictions, other agencies, consultants, and the public regarding wetland ecology, management, and regulation. This involves project/permit review, field inspections, guidance/expertise in ordinance revisions, public speaking, technical assistance, and training. This position provides the public "face" and "voice" of the commission on wetland-related topics.

    This is a trainee position in the Forestry Technician profession that performs basic duties and receives training, in support of a unit's various forestry, recreation and natural resources management programs, such as timber and silviculture, recreation and trails, wildlife, fisheries, watershed improvement, range, special uses, and wildland fire.  The responsibilities are listed at the full performance level and may include, but are not limited to: marking and measuring specific tree species and observing defects under the guidance of a supervisor, gathering, compiling, and recommending improvements for developed and dispersed recreation sites on the unit, functioning as Collection Officer for recreation sites.   • Assistant Research Scientist, Quantitative Ecology, Illinois Natural History Survey (Havana, IL: Due Sept. 21)

    The Illinois Natural History Survey is seeking a Quantitative Ecologist to Explore and quantitatively assess existing fish length and age data to evaluate various approaches to fish stock assessment and identify/pursue data gaps to characterize reach-specific population demographics of recreational and commercially important sport fishes in Illinois and Mississippi rivers and evaluate current sampling strategies for riverine sportfish.

    The internship will start with a two-week training with basic firefighter training (S-130 & S-190), an arduous work capacity test, and basic trail management and maintenance.  After the training, interns will spend approximately 14 weeks on districts implementing what they learned in the field. Upon completion of their 640-hour internship, interns will have the opportunity to earn the Public Land Corps Hiring Authority giving them eligibility to apply to merit vacancy announcements for two years with the Federal Government.     The Stewardship Field Coordinator position is focused primarily on completing annual monitoring visits and other site visits to protected properties across TN.     The Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory of the Southern Research Station is recruiting a Hydrologic Science Technician-GS-1316-06. The position will be advertised as a term two-year appointment. The position will be at the GS-6 level (salary range $35,306 to $46,294/yr plus standard Federal benefits). The duty station will be located at the Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory in Otto, NC.  The Coweeta Hydrologic Laboratory has been in continuous operation since 1934 and the research program spans the continuum of basic to applied science. Coweeta is a Long-Term Ecological Research Site and works cooperatively with several universities, National Forests, and local, state, and other federal agencies.

    The Michigan Forestry Assistance Program (FAP) provides private forestland owners with technical assistance and information regarding forestry, wildlife habitat, and related natural resource concerns, so that they may make informed decisions about the use and management of their forestlands. (“Landowners” include non-industrial private forestland owners, schools, local units of government, rural, and urban residents.) The Forester position is primarily a field position.
