  • City Internships Program

Programs are open to students from any year and with any major, and they may choose a placement in one of 9 career fields: Banking & Financial services; Consulting & Professional services; Law & Politics; Technology & Engineering; Marketing, Advertising & PR; Media, Entertainment & Journalism; Art, Fashion & Design; Start-ups & Entrepreneurship; Charities, NFPs & NGOs.

Programs are available in 9 locations: London, Paris, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Boston, Washington DC, Chicago, San Francisco.

This year has been the first that we have offered our Student Aid scheme, which grants up to $3,263 to students enrolling in one of our programs. All students are eligible for some aid, but the overwhelming amount of applications we have received means we will be re-assessing our aid contributions at some point during the Spring.

We will endeavour to provide as much support as possible to Students, but sadly it is not an unlimited resource! As such, I would again encourage students who aim to rely on our Student Aid offering to apply sooner rather than later.

    You may apply at: https://city-internships.com/apply

  • Sexual Assault Awareness (and Prevention) Month

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and we want to work with YOU to end sexual violence. Why? Because everyone deserves safe and healthy relationships!

Our 2019 theme is “I ASK” based on this year's national #SAAM2019 theme, and is built collaboratively across campus and community partners, to declare that to truly end violence and abuse we must be personally committed to being change agents in our every day lives.

This month, take action — attend an event, workshop, or training — and let’s talk about how we can support survivors and help end sexual violence. We have a host of events planned to support survivors, deconstruct social norms, explore consent, and promote healthy sexuality.

Check out this year's Sexual Assault Awareness Month event calendar, and stay up to date with new events at http://go.illinois.edu/saam.

Thank you for your commitment to helping us create a world without sexual violence. We look forward to seeing you at some of our events this month!

  • Human Library event September 27th

We’ve gotten great feedback from the community as well as the volunteers, and hope to include more students at future events.

  • "The S Word" Documentary

A suicide attempt survivor is on a mission to find fellow survivors and document their stories of unguarded courage, insight, pain, and humor. Along the way, she discovers a national community rising to transform personal struggles into action. THE S WORD chronicles her journey and these survivors in a powerful feature documentary that puts a human face to a topic that has long been stigmatized and buried with the lives it has claimed. Suicide affects people of all ages, races, faiths, ethnicities, gender presentations, sexual orientations, professions, and so much more. THE S WORD skillfully weaves stories of survivors from a cross section of America including LGBT, African American and Asian American communities, who candidly share their profoundly emotional stories of trauma, mental health challenges, survival and advocacy. The film’s narrative flows organically from one story to the next, starting with personal moments and building emotional momentum before widening out to show how their journeys are driving the national movement to take the “S” word from unthinkable to preventable.Trailer: vimeo.com/251373186 theswordmovie.com

  • Summer Institute for Languages of the Muslim World

The Summer Institute for Languages of the Muslim World (SILMW) is an annual intensive language program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. We invite students to join the 9% of Americans who choose the unique and meaningful experience of learning a Less Commonly Taught Language (LCTL).  We believe that learning these languages will allow students to gain new global perspectives and set them apart as highly qualified individuals for international work and engagement.  Many of these languages have been designated by the United States government as critical to U.S. National Security and can assist students in securing international positions in governmental, development, and academic sectors.

This summer SILMW will take place from June 10 to August 2, 2019, and we will be offering Arabic, Persian, Swahili, Turkish and Wolof.  The program is 8 weeks and is divided into two, 4-week semesters. This is an immersive experience, complete with instruction, cultural activities, opportunities for language practice, conversation tables, cooking classes, movie nights, and more!

When you complete the program, not only will you be able to hold a conversation in a new language and have earned up to 10 credits, you will have had fun!

For more information, visit our website at https://linguistics.illinois.edu/languages/summer-institute-languages-muslim-world.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at silmw@illinois.edu or reach out to Brennan Dell (dell3@illinois.edu).  We hope to see you this summer!

  • Comedy of Errors Auditions

What You Will introduces auditions for its second production of the semester and final production of the season: The Comedy of Errors: an Adaptation. This show takes the classic farce and sets it in a bankrupt circus trying to save their company by putting on Shakespeare's The Comedy of Errors.

There is no previous theatrical experience required, but since this production is circus themed, auditions WILL require preparation for any random skills or talents you can think of such as singing, dancing, juggling, sleight of hand - the list goes on. But don't let this intimidate you, there will be plenty of simple tricks our directing team can teach you if cast. Auditions are this Thursday, March 2 from 6pm - 10pm in room 150 of the English Building. We'd love to see you there! Any questions? Contact us at: whatyouwillshakes@gmail.com. Directed by Delilah Hansen. Assistant Directed by Logan Weeter and Kristopher Kwak.
