  • x-FU(s)ION-International Research Internship (Japan)

    Are you interested in a 2-month paid undergraduate researchinternship in Japan?

    The summer internship will be from June 1 to July 31, 2017 at Kyushu University, Japan. Successful applicants will work with faculty members, students, and postdocs on experimental projects focusing on the use of solid oxide electrolysis cells to transform renewable energy to chemical energy and to store it for later use. The award includes a $4000 summer stipend, room and board, roundtrip airfare, health insurance, and a cultural and language orientation.

  • UW-Madison College of Engineering Summer Undergraduate Research Experience Program (SURE)

    The College of Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE), a 10-week Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program.  Participants conduct a research project under the direction of faculty mentors and work as members of laboratory research teams investigating problems in engineering and the physical sciences in an academic environment.  The program includes workshops directed at the graduate application process as well as outside fellowship opportunities.  Participants are also offered opportunities to attend professional and social events with current graduate students and faculty. 

    SURE 2022 will be in person and will begin May 31 (travel day) and conclude on Saturday, August 5.  For eligibility requirements, please visit Summer Undergraduate Research Experience. Students from traditionally underrepresented racial/ethnic groups, first-generation students, and students from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

    The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Science, Technology and Policy (STP) Program is designed to provide opportunities for postgraduates to participate in programs, projects, and activities at the Office of International Affairs.  Fellows will receive hands-on experience that provides an understanding of the mission, operations, and culture of DOE.  As a result, fellows will gain deep insight into the federal government's role in the creation and implementation of global energy policies; apply their scientific and technical knowledge to the development of solutions to issues of importance to the DOE; and continue their education and involvement in areas that support the DOE mission.  The DOE Office of International Affairs is seeking ORISE fellows to support its mission.

    The Separations & Commercialization REU program will offer research experiences in laboratories that are working towards the goals of improving separation efficiency and reducing separation processing costs to a diverse group of undergraduate students. Participants will interact with faculty and graduate students to plan and execute a 10-week research project. A unique component of this REU program is the commercialization assessment training (CAT) series that will prepare them to think about the potential commercialization of traditional hypothesis-driven research early in the process. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with industry leaders in the separation field through the CAT series, industrial mentorships, as well as industrial site visits locally and in Texas.

    Mean, Green Recycling Machines: Undergraduate Scholarship Competition

    The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) is hosting a research-based challenge for undergraduate students! The challenge is for students to develop a website on plastic recycling. Students will research their schools’ current process for recycling plastic and then design/create a strategy to make the process more efficient. Thorough submissions will include further research on the plastic recycling process, benefits of current recycling methods, and process improvement ideas.     The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) is currently accepting submissions for the 2019 Undergraduate Research Symposium (URS), set for Thursday, April 18. The URS is the signature event of Undergraduate Research Week (April 14-20), and brings together students, faculty, and staff from all disciplines on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus, as well as corporate partners and sponsors, to learn more about undergraduate research and its potential to change the world. Over the course of the day, students present their work in concurrent oral and poster presentations (including creative performances), the breadth and scope of which reflect not only the wide range of academic disciplines at the University of Illinois, but also speak to the caliber of our undergraduates.

    The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) is now accepting submissions for the 2017 Undergraduate Research Symposium (URS), set for Thursday, April 27. The URS is the signature event of Undergraduate Research Week (April 23-29), and brings together students, faculty, and staff from all disciplines on the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus, as well as corporate partners and sponsors, to learn more about undergraduate research and its potential to change the world.
