  • Multiple internships with housing provided (summer 2024), Vermont Center for Ecostudies (White River Junction, VT; due Feb. 29)

    Each year, VCE hosts a cohort of individuals early in their ecology careers to gain hands-on experience on research and conservation projects. We are offering three internship opportunities for the summer of 2024 (June 11th- August 16th) based out of our offices in White River Junction VT. Interns will be paid $15 an hour and housing will be provided. The internship application period will close at 5pm EST on February 29th. Applicants can apply to more than one internship. 

  • Visitor Services Technician (Temporary; summer 2024), Sylvan Lake State Park (Eagle, CO; open until filled)

    Housing available.

  • Indiana State Coordinator (full-time), Pollinator Partnership (flexible or remote within IN; due Feb. 28)

    Pollinator Partnership (P2) seeks to hire a motivated and detail-oriented individual in Indiana to serve as State Coordinator to accomplish native, ecotypic seed collection and volunteer programming, as well as provide technical assistance to urban and agricultural communities.

  • Seasonal Forester (2-3 positions for summer 2024), Colorado State Forest Service (Gould, CO; due Feb. 16)

  • Aquatic/Fisheries Field Technician (Hourly) (up to 8 positions for June-Oct. 2024), Illinois Natural History Survey (Havana, IL; due Feb. 23)

    The Illinois Natural History Survey is seeking up to 8 field technicians to conduct applied research in aquatic ecology and large river systems throughout the state of Illinois. Technicians will assist large river ecologists in the collection of standardized long-term river monitoring data with additional targeted data collection. This position will be 40 hours per week and will be located in Havana, Illinois.  

    For full consideration, applications should be received by 02/23/2024but the position may be filled sooner when a suitable candidate is found.         

  • Program Leader or Specialist (Outdoor Education) (summer 2024), Girl Scouts of Chicago and Northeast Indiana (various locations)

    Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana operates three camp locations for ages 5-17. As a camp staff member, you will practice real-world skills that are transferable to all career paths, including leadership, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.   • REU Internship "Wetlands in a Modern World" (summer 2024), National Great Rivers Research and Education Center (East Alton, IL; due Feb. 16)

    In this summer program students will employ a modern integrative approach to wetland science that makes use of recent technological and theoretical developments across the geochemical, biological, and physical sciences. Students will conduct research at NGRREC’s state-of-the-art field station in Alton, IL and local field sights situated at the confluence of the Mississippi, Illinois and Missouri rivers.

    The Natural Areas Internship is designed for individuals who are interested in pursuing a career in ecological management. Candidates with experience or interest in natural resources, or already attending college in programs related to natural resources, are encouraged to apply.

    This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Range and Meadow Forage Management Research Unit in Burns, OR.

    In this position, you will actively participate in one or more phases of the research process related to soil and vegetation by performing a variety of technical duties in a field or laboratory environment.

    The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) has partnered with USDA to provide high-quality internship experiences for college students. Internship opportunities are available during Spring, Summer and Fall.     Do you love the outdoors and nature? Do you have an interest in learning more about the field of conservation?? If so, CLIP is for you! CLIP is a PAID internship designed to empower underserved, BIPOC and LGBTQ+ students interested in pursuing a career in the field of conservation. CLIP will provide interns with relevant hands on experiences in the field of conservation; collectively these skills will give each participant a strong understanding of the field of conservation and serve as a springboard for a professional career in the field of conservation.

  • Various Internship Positions (summer 2024), Wild Rivers Conservancy (Osceola, WI; due Feb. 9)

    Wild Rivers Conservancy interns support activities that give people opportunities to learn about and explore the Riverway, as well as protect and restore the watershed’s rare natural resources. These internship activities include assisting with K-12 environmental education programs and outdoor public programs to connect people to the Riverway and encourage stewardship, supporting land management by using GIS and other tools to develop snapshots of key habitat corridors and vital parcels of land for protection, working hand in hand with park rangers, creating opportunities for park visitors to understand the significance of the Riverway and its resources, monitoring and surveying water quality, aquatic invertebrates, zebra mussels, and bats, and educating the community on the spread of invasive species by connecting with people at landings and assisting with community-based invasive species awareness activities.

As a Conservation Education Representative (CER), you'll be a part of a team making a difference in various parks around the state. 

  • NSF – Research Experience for Undergraduates (grassland ecosystem ecology; summer 2024), Arizona State University (Las Cruces, NM; due Jan. 21)

    The Sala Lab at Arizona State University is looking for motivated undergraduate students to participate in research activities in grassland ecosystem ecology, for 10 weeks, during the summer of 2024. Successful applicants will work with peer students, faculty, graduate students, technicians, and postdocs to assist with ongoing rainfall manipulation experiments, vegetation and soil sampling, and other field surveys at the Jornada Experimental Range (~25 miles from Las Cruces, NM). Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to work with Sala Lab members and the PI to develop a personalized research project. Students can expect to conduct field work in summer weather conditions and live on-site at the Jornada Headquarters. Successful applicants will be awarded a stipend of $7,000, which is to cover food, travel, and personal project costs.

  • Naturalist Intern (seasonal), Missouri Department of Conservation (Cape Girardeau, MO; due Jan. 31)

    Job duties include, but are not limited to assisting with the development and presentation of scheduled programs, outdoor skills clinics, and special events on, and off, site, staffing the exhibit research lab and/or discovery station up to twice a month offering a hands-on activity and interacting with visitors, helping with the research, preparation, and staffing of a mix naturalist day camp programs for 7-11 year olds, 12-16 year olds, and multi-generational, and proposing, initiating, and completing an approved project (project scope will be decided between the intern naturalist and the nature center assistant manager based upon the needs of the facility and the skills and interests of the intern).

  • Community Conservation Intern (seasonal), Missouri Department of Conservation (Cape Girardeau, MO; due Jan. 31)

    Job duties include, but are not limited to conducting resource-related educational functions including but not limited to library programs, fishing clinics, pond and stream management workshops, field days, community stakeholder workshops, career days, and youth organization camps, assisting with the development of education materials and handouts for community partners: plans, grant applications, etc., working closely with Community Conservation Team and partners to help citizens identify valuable ways they can connect with fish, forest, and wildlife in their communities., and working with partners to integrate green space into the urban environment to provide equitable public access to nature.

  • Coastal Environmental Education Internship (summer 2024), BHI Conservancy (Bald Head Island, NC; due Jan. 14)

    The Bald Head Island Conservancy on Bald Head Island (BHI), NC, is seeking rising college juniors and seniors with outdoor and environmental education experience to join our nonprofit team dedicated to the conservation, education, and preservation of barrier islands. Duties are primarily leading outdoor educational programs, but will also include conservation field work and other responsibilities essential to the function of a nonprofit organization. Interns will live and work on an island only accessible by ferry with the main form of transportation being golf carts.

  • Fisheries Management Technician (Hourly) - Illinois Natural History Survey (Gibson City, IL; due Feb. 16)

    The Illinois Natural History Survey is seeking multiple (up to 2) technicians to conduct field and laboratory work in support of sportfish management projects in streams and reservoirs in Illinois. Fieldwork responsibilities include measuring limnological parameters and sampling fish using boat electrofishing in reservoirs and stream electrofishing gears in wadable streams. Must be knowledgeable in or willing to learn field and laboratory techniques associated with fisheries and aquatic ecology research. Experience operating boats, outboard motors, and trailers is preferred. Other duties include data entry and maintenance of sampling gears, boats and trailers, outboard motors, and laboratory equipment. Experience with field gears, microscopy, and freshwater fish identification is preferred. Work will be conducted in conjunction with Illinois Department of Natural Resources District Fisheries Biologists. Job offer comes with an expected commitment of 12 months, renewable up to 24 months.

  • Undergraduate Research Internships (summer 2024), Thomas More University (Crestview Hills, KY; due Feb. 9)

    The Thomas More University Biology Field Station, home of the Center for Ohio River Research & Education (CORRE), is offering 8 paid research internships for undergraduate students. These internships are in the fields of aquatic biology, conservation, ecology, and environmental science. Projects involve animal husbandry, bioassessments/biomonitoring, climate change, fisheries, harmful algal bloom monitoring and toxicology, among others.

    Time Period: Internships begin on June 1st and finish August 4th, 2024 with a break at the mid-point during the week of June 30th.

  • Research Experiences for Undergraduates (summer 2024), The Morton Arboretum (Lisle, IL; due Feb. 2)

    The Center for Tree Science REU program offers a wide range of research experiences in evolutionary biology, forest ecology, conservation biology, tree root biology, urban forestry and tree care, computer modeling, and engineering solutions. Undergraduates applying for the 2024 program will have a chance to select and rank their top three projects from the list on the website. 

  • Seasonal Ecology Internships (3 positions in summer 2024), Martha's Vineyard Land Bank Commission (Edgartown, MA; due Feb. 5)

    The Martha’s Vineyard Land Bank Commission is seeking three ecology interns for the 2024 summer season from May-October ($17/hr, 40-hour week). Start and end dates are flexible. The position supports the land bank’s ecologist and livestock manager with ecological surveys and the restoration grazing program on over 3000 acres of conservation land owned by the Land Bank.

  • Natural Areas Worker (summer 2024), Chicago Park District (Chicago, IL; due Jan. 4)

    Under immediate supervision, performs manual labor and operates equipment in support of natural areas restoration activities conducted at Park District facilities, including parks, special facilities, greenhouses, nurseries and nature gardens and other nature area communities.   • LAKES REU Internship (summer 2024), University of Wisconsin-Stout (Menomonie, WI; due Feb. 1)

    The research focus of the LAKES REU program is in areas of sustainable watershed management, with aspects of social, economic, and environmental approaches incorporated into broader problems of sustainability and community. Students involved in the program will be mentored by faculty members having wide-ranging backgrounds in relevant research areas.

    The Openlands Arborist Registered Apprenticeship 2024 cohort application will be available on Monday, January 8. They will be hosting a virtual, informational session on Monday December 18 at 6pm to provide interested applicants more information about the program, discuss the hiring timeline, and answer questions.

  • Community Service Officer (CSO) Summer 2024 Internships, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (various locations in WI; due Jan. 22)

    The WI DNR is hiring CSOs statewide for summer 2024 employment! CSOs are responsible for supporting the DNR’s law enforcement, security, outreach and education efforts. These roles will serve in big cities and rural areas, on both DNR lands and in other public spaces. Serve your community and gain valuable experience.

  • Seasonal Herpetological Technician (Hourly), Illinois Natural History Survey (Champaign, IL; due Jan. 15)

    We are seeking 4 individuals to fill these roles. 2 positions will begin on or before March 1, 2024, and 2 will start on or around April 15, 2024. 2 positions will end on September 30, 2024, and 2 will end on October 31, 2024.  

  • Natural Resources Technician, Forest Preserves of Champaign County (Mahomet, IL; open until filled)

    The Natural Resources Technician is responsible for assisting with natural areas management throughout the District. This includes invasive plant management; restoration and conservation of prairie/savanna, forest/woodlands, and wetlands; and support of the District’s education and recreation efforts. 

  • Conservation Land Management Program (summer 2024 start), Chicago Botanic Garden (various U.S. locations; interest form open)

    The Conservation and Land Management Program (CLM) at the Chicago Botanic Garden offers real-world experience to recent college graduates and young professionals interested in land management and conservation science.  

    Through a cooperative agreement with the US Forest Service, in 2024 the CLM program will hire and train interns to assist National Forests/Grasslands with their native plant materials development program, primarily through seed collection. These positions are really great for building plant identification and botanical expertise, navigation skills in the field, as well as networking opportunities and experience working at a federal agency.  

    These are 19-23-week paid positions.

  • Forest Nursery Internship (4 positions in summer 2024), University of Idaho Franklin H. Pitkin Reforestation Nursery (Moscow, ID; due Jan. 31)

    We are seeking 4 paid interns for summer 2024 to learn operational greenhouse forest seedling production for reforestation and forest restoration. Housing will be provided. Interns that complete this program will be highly competitive for forest nursery careers.
