  • Intern, Mason-Lake Conservation District (Scottville, MI) due 3/19

    Mason-Lake Conservation District is looking to hire an enthusiastic summer intern that will assist with field and office work pertaining to invasive species management with the North Country Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (NCCISMA).

  • Governor's Summer Intern - DNR Outreach, Indiana (Deadline March 31, 2020)

    This 26-week program (with 7/15/2024 start) is a rigorous work and learning experience in our biology programs that provides exposure to the Forest Service, development and training opportunities, and the opportunity to make a lasting impression on generations to come.  

  • Integrated Fire and Recreation Internship (Jan.-May, 2024), Student Conservation Association (multiple U.S. locations)

    The internship will start with a two-week training with basic firefighter training (S-130 & S-190), an arduous work capacity test, and basic trail management and maintenance.  After the training, interns will spend approximately 14 weeks on districts implementing what they learned in the field. Upon completion of their 640-hour internship, interns will have the opportunity to earn the Public Land Corps Hiring Authority giving them eligibility to apply to merit vacancy announcements for two years with the Federal Government. This position is split between fire service and trail work, the amount of fire work will vary from site to site.

    The Environmental Fellows Program (EFP) at the Yale School of the Environment (YSE) is a 12-week summer fellowship opportunity that seeks to diversify the environmental field by cultivating the career aspirations of master’s and doctoral students from historically underrepresented groups by connecting students to work opportunities in environmental nonprofits, grant makers, and government sectors. 

  • Barnum Conservation Policy Fellow. (Michigan United Conservation Clubs) (Lansing, Michigan)

    Michigan United Conservation Clubs (MUCC) is now accepting fellowship applications for the upcoming academic semester to serve as the Barnum Conservation Policy Fellow. MUCC is a non-profit member-based organization with more than 200 affiliated clubs and 40,000 members. Since 1937, MUCC has United Citizens to Conserve, Protect and Enhance Michigan’s Natural Resources and Preserve Our Outdoor Heritage through education, communication, and advocacy. The late Dean Oliver Barnum was a life member of MUCC, a lifelong hunter and conservationist, and a government professor. 

    Applicants can expect to gain diverse experience working for a non-profit entity that is fully dedicated to the conservation of Michigan’s natural resources and the enhancement and preservation of our recreational pastimes. Additionally, the MUCC Policy Fellow will be directly engaged in the day-to-day legislative, regulatory and media-related advocacy efforts of the organization. 

  • Summer 2025 Internship Webinars, Environment for the Americas

    Environment for the Americas engages in racially and ethnically diverse early career professionals through internships in science communications, history, interpretation, and other natural resources fields. Six webinars on different topics will take place in December and January. Applications open in early December.

  • REU Ecology in Human Dominated Landscapes (summer 2024), Miami University (Oxford, OH; apply by March 2024)

    The Miami University Research Experience for Undergrads (REU) program in Ecology and Environment is a summer research program supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Our program is an exciting opportunity for 9-12 undergraduate students to actively engage in a 10-week collaborative research project. 

    • Each student focuses on an independent research project.
    • Research opportunities are available in the lab or field (aquatic or terrestrial environments).
    • Small groups of students and mentors form clusters that meet regularly to discuss current literature related to their projects. 
    • The summer includes field trips, short courses on ethics and professions in ecology and environmental science, and seminars by guest speakers.

  • Coastal Environmental Education Internship (summer 2024), BHI Conservancy (Bald Head Island, NC; due Jan. 14)

    The Bald Head Island Conservancy on Bald Head Island (BHI), NC, is seeking rising college juniors and seniors with outdoor and environmental education experience to join our nonprofit team dedicated to the conservation, education, and preservation of barrier islands. Duties are primarily leading outdoor educational programs, but will also include conservation field work and other responsibilities essential to the function of a nonprofit organization. Interns will live and work on an island only accessible by ferry with the main form of transportation being golf carts.

The Recreation instructor position is a seasonal hourly position (10-15 hours per week). The position will approximately run from June - August 2025.  

  • Summer Field Technician University of Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences (Idaho, Utah, and Wyoming; due Feb 28th 2025)

    Dr. Eric Larson (https://publish.illinois.edu/erlarson/) in the University of Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences is seeking a summer undergraduate technician to assist with field work in Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah for five weeks of summer 2025 from mid-July to mid-August. The technician will be directly supervised by graduate student Jacob Watson, sampling native and non-native crayfish populations and measuring associated stream habitat characteristics. This will be a full-time position (40 hours per week) at a rate of $15 per hour with travel, lodging, and meals (per diem) provided.

    Our Outreach Educator Internship provides an opportunity for next-generation leaders to receive training and coaching to develop their naturalist, outdoor education, and resource interpretation skills and techniques. Outreach Educators work both as a team and independently to lead a variety of programs to a wide audience in diverse settings, often working closely with public school systems and partners throughout the year. In the summer, the outreach team leads day-camps based at IndianaDunes National Park’s historic Chellberg Farm and assists with residential camps.   • LTER Plant Community Ecology Internships (summer 2024), Cedar Creek Ecosystem Science Reserve (East Bethel, MN; due Feb. 19)

    The Cedar Creek LTER (Long Term Ecological Research Network) has several opportunities for students to work as plant community ecology interns. Most positions run from June through August, but some interns are needed as early as March, and some are needed through October. Your educational institution may be able to approve this internship, with an appropriate independent project, for any field biology requirement of your major. As a research intern, you will contribute to ongoing field experiments, may have the opportunity to initiate individual research, attend scientific seminars, and interact with professors, post-docs, and graduate students. If you are an undergraduate or a newly graduated student with a background or interest in biology, ecology, environmental science, botany, environmental education, or related field we encourage you to apply.

    Pay is $15.00 per hour. Typical workdays are eight hours Monday through Friday; however, some projects require weekend, early morning, and evening work. Most of the work you do will be out in the field, though a few jobs have indoor laboratory or computer components. On-site dormitory housing is available to rent.

  • EPA Internship for Regulation of Stormwater and Promotion of Integrated Planning and Permitting, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (Philadelphia, PA; open until filled)

    EPA Region 3 is striving to reduce nitrogen, phosphorus, and sediment loads from stormwater operations to meet obligations under the Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL). One of the main sources of these pollutants to the Bay occurs as runoff from urban areas and impervious surfaces comes into contact with surface water.
