Memphis Zoo’s Department of Conservation & Research is offering a paid amphibian internship in conservation biology. The position is available for upper-level undergraduate students and students 1-2 years post-college. This internship offers a unique research experience in a zoo setting working with scientists conducting cutting edge and frontline projects to save wildlife. In the 2025 CPLC internship program, high school and college students will learn about environmental issues our community faces, get hands-on experience in environmental advocacy, and grow as leaders while being part of a supportive team.

Interns will assist staff in implementing the EPP in one or more of the above areas with appropriate guidance, oversight, and training.

The Arborist Registered Apprenticeship is a 3-year training program administered by Openlands in partnership with the Department of Labor and tree care companies across the Chicago region. Apprentices work alongside industry professionals and gain hands-on experience, training, and skills to launch their green careers in arboriculture and urban forestry.

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), the nation’s most effective animal advocacy organization, is seeking three (3) remote Interns for the Wildlife Protection department. As a Wildlife Protection Intern you will be introduced to state and federal wildlife protection policy (i.e. laws and regulations addressing wildlife), and to the animal protection and environmental protection fields. You will also learn about and develop the skills and tools necessary to effectively advocate for wild animals through outreach, education, and policy.

The Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program sponsored by the National Science Foundation supports active research participation by undergraduate students in any of the areas of research funded by the Foundation. The Illinois Natural History Survey (Prairie Research Institute) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is seeking undergraduate students who want to be involved in an ongoing research project focused on the detection and characterization of phytoplasmas, a group of bacteria associated with insects (vectors, primarily Hemiptera) and plants (hosts) and implicated in plant disease.

The Center for Ohio River Research & Education (CORRE) at the Thomas More University Biology Field Station is offering 8 paid research internships for undergraduate students. These positions are in the fields of aquatic biology, ecology, environmental science and field biology. Projects involve animal husbandry, bioassessments/biomonitoring, fisheries, harmful algal bloom monitoring and toxicology, among others.

The wetland intern will spend about 90% of the study time in the field and 10% of the time in the office under the guidance of SMC’s wetland specialists. This position will allow the intern to apply classroom experiences to real world applications by collecting data for later analysis both by the intern and SMC staff. This position also will expose the intern to various aspects of SMC’s wetland regulatory program.

This internship is designed for college sophomores, juniors, or seniors who are interested in a participatory, team-based summer internship opportunity that focuses on field conservation science techniques, learning about a zoo-based conservation organization, and culminates in a team project, synthesizing information learned over the entire summer.

The Illinois Natural History Survey is seeking 2 field technicians to assist with the 2023 summer field sampling for the Illinois Bat Conservation Program (IBCP), mostly for acoustic surveys, but with opportunities to assist with mist netting as well.
