• Health Related RSO Fair

  The Career Center will be hosting the Health Related RSO Fair next Wednesday, September 6 from 5-7 pm at their main office (715 S. Wright Street). Last year they had over 100 students come through to speak to representatives from Health RSOs.

  These two volumes feature a variety of pieces, including creative expression pieces, literature reviews, research poster presentations, and scholarly research papers. While Illinois currently offers students who meet certain criteria access to in-state tuition, students have very limited options for scholarships, making college unaffordable for many students. The Student ACCESS Bill (SB 2196) would provide undocumented college students the opportunity to apply for scholarships at 4-year public universities in Illinois, making it easier for all students to pay for their college education.

• Spring 2nd-half semester EPSY 203 Dialogue classes now open

  Students may now register for EPSY 203 Dialogue on Social Issues classes for Spring 2020.

  These one-credit hour courses focus on different social identity issues, and help prepare students to think more critically and interact more successfully in socially diverse groups and settings. They are experiential and collaborative, and support students in understanding the complexity of power, privilege and oppression. They can be very useful for developing clearer communications, small group/team skills, and knowledge about fairness and social justice in organizations and the larger society.

  The courses emphasize collaborative sense-making, where students and instructors work together to understand issues associated with intergroup relations. Instead of lectures, the dialogue approach invites learners to share their own experiences and perspectives on issues, in order to create deeper understanding among learners.

• YWCA Women in Leadership Program 2019-2020, accepting applications

  The YWCA is looking for a cohort of 2019-2020 interns and mentors to participate in our annual Women in Leadership Program. The internship is great for students who are interested in nonprofit work or consulting. The cohort of 25 students is split into five groups of five and each group is paired with one mentor. Additionally, each group is paired with an organization in the community and spend the fall semester researching and volunteering with the goal of identifying that organization’s major challenges. During the spring semester, students propose and implement a sustainable action plan to address one of these challenges. Throughout the year, students participate in professional and creative development workshops and conferences.

  Women in Leadership is an opportunity for students at the University of Illinois who identify as women to practice problem solving and sustained team work. Last year, 91 percent of students said they saw an increase in their capacity to work collaboratively with others and 75 percent said they felt more prepared in their career development. Students also get the chance to apply the skills they learn in the classroom to address organizational challenges and engage in the broader Champaign-Urbana community.

  Students from all disciplines are welcome to apply. The time commitment is 2-3 hours a week for interns and 1-2 hours a week for mentors. This internship is unpaid and not eligible for class credit. Priority Applications for the 2019-2020 School year are due June 1st, 2019, all other applications are due by August 31st, 2019. • Summer Rural Health Experience program

  The Rural Health Experience (RHE) is a 3-5 day rural immersion program for health professions students to observe rural healthcare providers and their communities. Much like the preceptorship, it is based upon principles of experiential learning and community immersion. There are 7 participating sites across the state this summer.

  This is a great opportunity for upperclassmen and graduate students looking for establishing connections with potential future employers in rural communities.

  There is no set date for the program- the timing is based upon the availability of the student and site. The early consideration application deadline is May 14th.   The Petullo Insight program is designed to help students focus on self-awareness and self-management skills. Students who participate will identify their personal values and personal leadership philosophy, while exploring their personal strengths and social identities.

  The Intersect program is designed to help students focus on interpersonal communication and team building. Students who participate will work with fellow students to accomplish team challenge goals.

  INCLUSION: Oct. 6th

  The Inclusion program focuses on concepts such as equity, equality, diversity, inclusion, and bias. Students who participate will recognize the values of others, and identify differing social identities in relation to leadership.

  The Integrity program focuses on the skills necessary for interpersonal and organizational ethical leadership. Students who participate in Integrity are faced with ethical challenges and learn how to successfully navigate them with the help of skilled facilitators.

  The Career Center has developed a brand new resource for students pursuing health professions: Pre-Health at Illinois Compass2g. They created this resource to have an additional platform where students can get the information they are seeking about preparing for health professions in a setting they are already using for their classes-Compass2g. Please note that this is not a class that students will enroll in, but just more detailed information related to careers in healthcare. The information in the page will evolve over time, with new content, videos, events, etc. This should be a continuous resource for students, and they hope to reach students that might not seek out health professions advising.

  As of right now, students will need to request access to the page by filling out a form at https://go.illinois.edu/prehealthcompass.   My name is Emily Stoerger and I am the Community Relations Coordinator at the Eastern Illinois Foodbank. We have an upcoming Foodmobile at the Northern Piatt Fire Protection District, 108 Washington St., Mansfield, IL on October 20th from 8:45 am - 12:15 pm. We need volunteers to be able to distribute food. I was wondering if you would be interested in volunteering at this site or helping us spread the word about this upcoming opportunity.

  Foodmobiles are mobile food pantries focused on alleviating hunger among vulnerable populations. Foodmobiles target rural and under-served communities. Volunteers are needed to set up the food distribution area, hand out product to recipients, help recipients carry product to their cars, and clean up after distribution is complete. A short orientation will be provided by a Foodmobile Captain or EIF Staff member on-site at 8:45 am. This volunteer project requires volunteers to lift, bend and stand during distribution preparation and throughout the distribution period.

  This is a great way to make a lot of impact in a short amount of time. Most of our Foodmobiles feed anywhere from 100-250 families in a single morning! These Foodmobiles will service all of Piatt County for the month of October but so far we only have a handful of volunteers to work the distribution. Without volunteers, these distributions are simply not possible.

Bailey Internship Scholarship Program for Cause-Driven Leaders is available to undergraduate students at the University of Illinois who receive an unpaid internship with a public service agency or not-for profit organization. Awards are $1,000 for a part-time internship or $2,500 for a full-time internship and are given directly to the student to help with educational expenses.

  Students completing internships that are part of an academic program's graduation requirements (community health practicum, social work internship, student teaching, etc) are not eligible to receive the Bailey Internship Scholarship. Interns will support faculty and LAS International Programs staff working with a group of university students from China who will be on campus for a 4-week summer academic program: Economics and Accounting for the Global Market.

  Interns will work approximately 20-25 hours a week between July 16 and August 16. Hours will vary based on the group’s schedule and will include some evenings and weekends.

  Salary: $10/hour (interns serving as RAs will also receive free housing and some meals for the duration of the program.)
