  • Lametric Ptterson, Ed.S.

    Lametric Patterson is a Ed.D. student in the Department of Education, Policy, Organization, and Leadership, with a concentration in Human Resource Development. She has more than 20 years of experience designing and facilitating professional learning for educators. She previously served as an executive leadership coach (PPIS) and instructional designer for DoDEA and academic librarian, school librarian, and technology specialist in various PK-16 environments. Her research focuses on how AI can enhance learning transfer in asynchronous online courses designed for instructional leaders. She launched Curaited.io, an AI tools directory and training resource, to support educators with effectively utilizing AI to accelerate teaching and learning.

  • Logan Tayler Pender (he/him/his)

    Logan Tayler Pender is a graduate student in the Education Policy, Organization & Leadership (EPOL) program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, with a concentration in Global Studies in Education. His research interests lie in decolonizing U.S. higher education and education abroad systems, advancing education as smart diplomacy, and promoting equitable global engagement. He served as a 2024-2025 Gilman Alumni Ambassador for the U.S. Department of State, a 2025 LeadNext Global Ambassador Fellow with The Asia Foundation, and was selected as a delegate for the 2025 Sustainable Development League World Economic & Leadership Forum in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.     Gabrielle Haggins is a PhD student in the Higher Education program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). Her research explores global education and the experiences of Black women in academia. She examines cultural and communicative barriers to educational equity in the U.S. and abroad, emphasizing international education’s role in fostering cultural awareness and diversifying perspectives, particularly the impact of Black faculty teaching abroad. Additionally, she investigates how identity and socialization shape Black women’s experiences in graduate education and early career stages. Her work aims to advance equity, inclusion, and opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds, particularly people of color.

    Kuneyl (Ka-Neil) is a Ph.D. student in EPOL with dual concentrations in Higher Education and History of Education. Her research interest centers the history of two-year colleges which were founded in the Jim Crow South, minority serving institutions, and racially marginalized community college students. Kuneyl has served in higher education for over eight years and currently works as a graduate research assistant for the Office of Community College Research and Leadership (OCCRL).

    Aaron is a doctoral candidate in EPOL with a concentration in Diversity and Equity. He has nearly 20 years of experience in training and education, first as a training supervisor with the U.S. Navy then as a high school teacher, administrator, and instructional leader. Academically, he has completed all coursework and exams and has moved into the disseration phase.     I am pursuing Ed.D in Education Policy, Organization and Leadership with a concentration in Diversity & Equity. My Ed.D research will focus on the role of the civil society in providing underprivileged children (in poverty) equitable access to primary education in Pakistan.     Jenny is an online doctoral student in Education Policy, Organization and Leadership with a concentration in Learning Design and Leadership with emphasis in e-learning in higher education.     Jewel Bourne is a doctoral student in the Department of Education Policy, Organization & Leadership with a concentration in higher education. As a former community college transfer student and Sally Casanova Scholar, her research interests revolve around the promotion of access, persistence, and empowerment of  systemically excluded student populations in higher education, with a focus on the experience of Black female-identifying students who transition from community college to four-year institutions.

  • Alexander Rosado-Torres (he/him/él)

    Alex is a doctoral student in the History of Education concentration via Education Policy, Organization, and Leadership. In addition to this he also holds a graduate minor in Queer Studies within the department of Gender & Women Studies. 
His research is rooted in documenting the role of LGBTQ+ student and teacher activism in educational spaces. Alex is particularly curious how past LGBTQ+ activism has shaped modern day educational spaces which are viewed as LGBTQ+ friendly/safe.

    As a Queer Latinx person, he is especially interested in exploring the experiences of racialized LGBTQ+ folks within these educational contexts. Overall, his research is most informed by oral history, archival methods, and critical theory.

    As a doctoral student at the University of Illinois in the Department of Education Policy, Organization and Leadership, my current research focuses on the historical intersections of education, race, protest, urban renewal, and law-and-order politics in the midwestern United States. 

    My recent work has focused on the intersections of race, housing, and school closure in Minneapolis, Minnesota between the 1970’s and 2000’s. My ongoing work is currently focused on the rise of law-and-order politics, school desegregation, urban renewal, and student protest during the late 1960's and early 1970's.

    Alex is a doctoral student in Education Policy, Organization & Leadership with a concentration in higher education. His specific focus of research is on food insecurity within the college environment. Alex currently serves as Senior Associate Director for Student Engagement and Assistant to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Success & Engagement at Illinois.   • Jennifer Hain Teper

    Jennifer Hain Teper is a part-time doctoral student in the Education Policy, Organization, & Leadership Department with a focus on the History of Education. Her research interests lie in the development of formal education pathways for art and cultural heritage conservators and understanding the historic and current barriers towards increasing racial and ethnic diversity within the profession.     Hanna Kim

    Hanna Kim is a third-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Education Policy, Organization and Leadership with a concentration in Global Studies in Education (GSE). Her research interests lie in a sense of belonging and identity development among Asian international graduate students at US universities as well as Asian American history education. She has worked for the College of Education’s International Program, the Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies (CEAPS), as well as the Global Leaders Program in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. She currently serves as a research assistant for the Teaching Equitable Asian American Community History (TEAACH) project. Prior to pursuing her Ph.D. program, she worked for World Vision Korea (NGO) as a broadcast filing coordinator and studied for her master's in Applied Linguistics and TESOL at the University of Mississippi. She hopes to contribute to creating a welcoming climate in academic communities where all students feel they belong to the department and university.

  • Jasmine Porter-Rallins

    Jasmine Porter-Rallins is a doctoral student in the Education Policy, Organization, and Leadership Program at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.

    Her research interests include the history of African American boarding schools, the evolution and impact of the Afrocentric school model, and the relationship between sense of belonging and academic achievement for Black students. 

    Prior to coming to UIUC, Jasmine worked in education as a middle school science teacher in Boston Public Schools (MA) and Fulton County Public Schools (GA), a program director for the federally funded Upward Bound Program, and as an adjunct professor at Tufts University and Northeastern Illinois University.
