Internships are Mt. Cuba Center’s greatest investment in the future. Our goal is to inspire students to have an appreciation for the beauty and value of native plants and a desire to protect the environments that sustain them.

We offer two types of programs: a summer program that runs for 12 weeks for college undergraduates or recent college graduates and a one year program for recent college graduates.

The Michigan Forestry Assistance Program (FAP) provides private forestland owners with technical assistance and information regarding forestry, wildlife habitat, and related natural resource concerns, so that they may make informed decisions about the use and management of their forestlands. (“Landowners” include non-industrial private forestland owners, schools, local units of government, rural, and urban residents.) The Forester position is primarily a field position.

The Bridger-Teton National Forest will be hiring seasonal positions for the 2016 summer season starting in January of 2016.  The Forest will be filling up to 4 seasonal positions in timber. Government housing will be available for these positions.  The jobs will be posted starting January 8th   thru January 27th based on the grade of the position.

The Colorado State Forest Service is hiring for a Program Manager in the Forest Management Division.  

Required Job Qualifications: 

A degree in forestry, another natural resources program, or a related degree will be considered. Four years of combined field forestry and Forest Management program administration experience. Successful applicants must have a valid Colorado driver’s license or ability to acquire one upon employment.  

The Six Rivers National Forest will soon be advertising for a GS-0462-10/11 Forestry Technician (Timber Sale Administration) position.  This position is permanent full time. The duty station for this position is Eureka, California.

The scientist is a Research Biologist in the Southern Research Station’s Eastern Forest Environmental Threat Assessment Center (SRS-4854). The mission of the Eastern Forest Environmental Threat Assessment Center (EFETAC) is to generate knowledge and tools needed to anticipate and respond to environmental threats. The most serious threats to forests and the benefits they provide inevitably involve complex factors interacting across multiple spatial and temporal scales. The Center’s challenge is to maintain a comprehensive and integrated research program to tackle these complex issues, while delivering knowledge to forest landowners, managers, decision-makers, scientists, and other interested audiences in a timely, useful, and user-friendly manner.

AmeriCorps Superior National Forest Crews (ages 18-25) receive on-the-job training to learn natural resources management skills and put those skills into practice working on projects throughout Superior National Forest. Superior National Forest seasonal crews are part of the Superior National Forest’s “Faces of Tomorrow” initiative, an effort to improve the diversity of their future workforce. Leader and member positions involve physically challenging, team-oriented outdoor work on conservation projects such as invasive species management, fuels reduction, campsite maintenance, timber stand improvement, trail maintenance, tree planting, timber marking, and wildfire suppression/prescribed burning. The Crew Leader works directly with Crew Members to complete all forest improvement projects, monitoring member performance and safety and providing on-site education and training. --valuable job skills applicable to any career -- Earn an AmeriCorps education award for school expenses or to pay off qualified student loans -- Learn about current environmental issues and network with natural resource professionals -- Get field experience and gain natural resource management skills.

The Morton Arboretum is seeking candidates for two full-time Research Assistant I positions (one in Forest Ecology and one in Tree Conservation Biology).  Research Assistants participate in laboratory and/or field operations for research programs in the Center for Tree Science, a global hub of research and expertise focused entirely on trees. Research Assistants at The Morton Arboretum are involved in all aspects of research: designing studies, planning and executing laboratory and field work, utilizing a variety of scientific instruments, assisting with lab management, testing protocols, training volunteers, organizing data, performing analysis, reading scientific literature, interpreting results, and editing manuscripts.  The Morton Arboretum strongly emphasizes professional development.  There will be opportunities to collaborate on scientific publications, present research at scientific meetings, and build new skills. The Northern Region of the Forest Service will soon be announcing and advertising all of our temporary positions throughout North Idaho, Montana, and parts of the Dakotas in January 2016.

Seasonal Foresters perform forest reconnaissance, regeneration surveys and take part in special inventory projects as needed. This position is also responslble for assisting foresters in timber sale establlshment, scaling and administration, detection of invasive species, forest insect and disease monitoring and general forest sign and equipment maintenance. This Is a Seasonal Non-Represented Position for Douglas County Forestry Department located In Solon Springs, WI. Two openings anticipated to be filled for late May or early June and extending through August or December 2018, depending on avallablllty.

PROFESSIONAL OUTDOOR INSTRUCTOR: Eleven (11) Temporary, Full-time Positions. Pay: $275/week plus room and partial board (meals while working with programs), Dates: March 6 - May 28, 2016.

Bradford Woods, Indiana University’s Outdoor Center, is located in the American Heartland in South Central Indiana. We are surrounded by rolling hills, limestone bluffs, deciduous forests and miles of waterways.

Purdue University’s Department of Forestry and Natural Resources solicits applicants to fill a full-time, fiscal-year position as Natural Resources Lab Coordinator and Collections Curator. The incumbent will: coordinate and participate in activities related to field and laboratory instruction of undergraduate natural resources courses that involve identification of plants and wildlife; develop and maintain the departmental collections of vertebrate and herbarium/arboretum specimens upon which these courses rely; organize equipment, vehicles and schedules, hire Teaching Assistants, provide orientations, and coordinate daily operations on behalf of faculty and staff as Director of the department's natural resources practicum; offer, on an annual basis, an undergraduate course in natural resources.

The Klamath National Forest is currently seeking a candidate for a permanent full-time Student Trainee (Forester/Silviculture/Timber Management) GS-0499- 04/05 convertible to a GS- 0460- 05/07/09 position located at the Goosenest Ranger District in Macdoel, California.

The Klamath National Forest is currently seeking a candidate for a permanent full-time Forester (Genetics), GS-0460-5/7/9 position located at the Klamath National Forest Headquarters in Yreka, California.  The purpose of this Outreach Notice is to inform prospective applicants of this upcoming opportunity and make decisions on how this position will be filled.  Be sure to check the boxes for the hiring authorities that you plan to apply under. 

This outreach is an early alert to inform potential applicants that the USDA Forest Service, Northeastern Area, State and Private Forestry will soon be advertising a permanent, full-time GS-0414 (Entomologist) or 0434 (Pathologist) -13 Group Leader, Forest Health position. The National Forests in Alabama will soon be advertising a GS-0408/0470-11 Ecologist/Soil Scientist position.  The incumbent serves as member of the Natural Resources Planning Team and is responsible for providing a variety of responsibilities associated with ecological and soil science programs and management.  The position will be located at the Supervisor’s Office (or possibly on another Forest Service Unit) in Alabama.  Depending on the responses to this outreach, the position may be advertised on the OPM’s USAJobs website at: www.usajobs.gov.
