  • Aquatic Research Data Internship (6 months), Colorado Parks And Wildlife (Fort Collins, CO)

    This internship utilizes online training and personal one-on-one instruction, working with software packages such as SQL, R, ArcGIS, and Tableau, to manage, manipulate, and analyze fisheries data from across the state. A primary topic of interest will be developed in consultation with the data analyst and worked on throughout the internship to produce a publication or presentation at the local American Fisheries Society Chapter meeting. Various opportunities to work alongside field crews to see how data collection is occurring in the field will be arranged.

  • GIS Internship (12 months), Ducks Unlimited, Inc (Dexter, MI; due May 31)

    Responsibilities include GIS data development for the National Wetlands Inventory within the Great Lakes, Gulf Coast, and U.S. territories in the Caribbean, and assisting with a variety of projects as needed, including data collection and management, cartography, geospatial analysis, and geospatial web applications.

  • Joe Burns Memorial Wildlife Policy Intern (July-Dec. 2023), The Wildlife Society (Remote)

    The Wildlife Society (TWS) has an anticipated opening for a paid wildlife policy intern with an interest in federal natural resource policy issues. This will be a six-month appointment running from July-December 2023.  The wildlife policy intern will be an integral part of TWS’ Government Affairs program. This program works to ensure that 1) TWS’ members are informed of policy issues and the impact policies have on their work in wildlife conservation, 2) policies empower, enable, and assist wildlife professionals in their work of wildlife conservation and management, and 3) wildlife science is the foundation upon which wildlife-related policy decisions are made.

    The purpose of the Youth Internship Program (YIP) for Natural Resources is to employ and expose students and recent graduates to natural resource careers within Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW).  The selected candidate will experience a variety of learning experiences (i.e. ride along with officers, wildlife surveys, educational activities, seminars, training’s) and gain a broader understanding of CPW and its various careers.  This position is a great experience for those wanting to pursue a career as a District Wildlife Manager, Park Ranger, or biologist.

  • Cabin Leader Internship (summer 2023; males needed), Dunes Learning Center (Chesterton, IN)

    Cabin Leaders help students create connections, build confidence, and develop a sense of place by providing opportunities to explore, ask questions, reflect, and work together as a team. They facilitate the evening programs (campfire, group games, night hike, ice cream social, etc), lead meal and flag raising activities, and provide overnight supervision of campers throughout the week.

  • Land Conservation Intern (summer 2023), Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation (Elizabeth, IL; due Apr. 26)

    The Land Conservation Internship (“the Intern”) position is a 40-hour per week, seasonal, paid position responsible for assisting with the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation’s (“JDCF”) Land Preservation and Land Stewardship programs, with a particular emphasis on conservation real estate transactions, geographic information systems, and ecological restoration. This position will also assist with the land stewardship activities at Twin Ponds Research Farm. This position is designed to give the Intern a comprehensive understanding of nonprofit land protection practices and procedures and land stewardship practices.

    Description: The Center for Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences at Eastern Illinois University isseeking several seasonal fisheries interns and technicians to assist with general field andlaboratory work associated with graduate research projects. Current projects include invasivecarp reproductive ecology, stream fish community monitoring, and sportfish populationdynamics on the Wabash River. Field work duties will include assisting graduate students with avariety of fisheries surveys, recording biological and environmental data, and maintaining fieldequipment. Fisheries surveys will be conducted on a variety of streams, rivers (Wabash andIllinois Rivers), and reservoirs throughout Central Illinois. Surveys will include bargeelectrofishing, electric seining, larval fish sampling, boat electrofishing, hoop netting, collectionof water quality samples, and macroinvertebrate sampling. Laboratory work will includeprocessing larval fish samples, assisting with water quality measurements, assisting with streamfish identification, assisting with fish aging techniques, and maintaining a clean and organizedlab space. Internships will come with a monthly stipend, and per diem reimbursement forovernight travel trips.

    Sea Grant’s Community Engaged Internship (CEI) aims to broaden participation in coastal, ocean, Great Lakes, and marine sciences by offering training and mentorship, through paid internships, to undergraduate students from under-resourced, underrepresented and/or indigenous and tribal populations.
