    Job Summary: Assist with all Aspects of Water Quality Monitoring Programs and Inspections

     The Water Quality Intern will help with aspects of water quality monitoring programs, end of pipe site sampling, including preparing sampling materials and supplies, field work, and data management, and various administrative tasks in assistance to the Coordinators. Additionally, inspecting stormwater best management practices (BMPs) and construction activities.  The position will assist in data analysis and the development of figures, maps, and tables for reports.

    Office-related tasks for this position include helping prepare for and attend upcoming meetings (agendas, speaker/venue coordination), writing meeting minutes, coordinating with local board members, preparing spreadsheets, and other miscellaneous tasks. This position will assist with NPDES permits or correspondence from regulatory agencies and construction or post-construction storm water compliance plans such as Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SP3), SMPP’s, ILR10, NOI, NOT, etc. This position will also assist with water quality program elements and gather information to support reporting. The Water Quality Intern works with oversight of two watershed coordinators and the Lake County MS4 coordinator, providing the intern with a unique, hands-on, environmental science and local government experience.

    The intern candidate should be an undergraduate or graduate pursuing a degree in environmental science or a related field. Familiarity with environmental sampling and analysis techniques is desirable but not required. Self-motivation, reliability and the ability to work independently and follow specific sampling protocols are all critical, as is attention to safety procedures. Computer skills are necessary and having your own transportation is required, although a vehicle is available most of the time. Interns should be enthusiastic to work in the field with specialized equipment on uneven terrain and under adverse weather conditions (i.e. rain).  To apply Click here!
