  • Wabash Valley Waterfowl: Mallard and Teal Migration Project – Field Technicians (2)

    Technicians are needed for a project investigating stopover duration and habitat use of spring migrating Mallards in the Wabash River region of southeastern Illinois and southwestern Indiana. Duties include, but are not limited to: baiting and deploying duck capture traps, rocket netting, taking metrics and banding ducks, deploying radio transmitters, using radio telemetry to track and monitor ducks, equipment maintenance, and data management. Work will involve early mornings (e.g., 4 am departures), long days in the field, and a variable work schedule. Field vehicle and housing provided and overtime is authorized

    The Department of Natural Resources, Monitoring and Non-Tidal Assessment Division, is currently accepting applications for Natural Resources Biologist II positions. These positions are located in our Annapolis, MD office. The selected candidates will participate in the planning and implementation of freshwater stream ecological assessments and will serve as a member of a field crew responsible for the collection of data on fishes, benthic macroinvertebrates, herpetofauna, crayfishes, freshwater mussels, physical habitat, water quality, and land use in non-tidal streams and rivers as part of the Maryland Biological Stream Survey. General duties for all three positions will include field data collections, data analysis and interpretation, and reporting related to the status and distribution of Maryland's aquatic resources.

    The scientist is a Research Biologist in the Southern Research Station’s Eastern Forest Environmental Threat Assessment Center (SRS-4854). The mission of the Eastern Forest Environmental Threat Assessment Center (EFETAC) is to generate knowledge and tools needed to anticipate and respond to environmental threats. The most serious threats to forests and the benefits they provide inevitably involve complex factors interacting across multiple spatial and temporal scales. The Center’s challenge is to maintain a comprehensive and integrated research program to tackle these complex issues, while delivering knowledge to forest landowners, managers, decision-makers, scientists, and other interested audiences in a timely, useful, and user-friendly manner.

  • BIOLOGIST II - SURVEY COORDINATOR – Wildlife Division

    This position is within the Wildlife Division of the North Dakota Game and Fish Department and the employee also serves as a team member of the Game Management Section.  This section is responsible for conducting a wide variety of surveys, research and management activities for big game, upland game, furbearers, migratory game birds, and wildlife diseases in North Dakota.  The successful candidate will be the primary source for sound statistical survey design related to conducting and evaluating the aforementioned and other Department programs.  This includes working independently and providing direction to Administration and other Department staff on appropriate survey methods and courses of action.

    The Stephen A. Forbes Biological Station, established in 1894, is located along the Illinois River on Chautauqua National Wildlife Refuge near Havana, Illinois. It is the oldest inland field station in North America and one of nine field stations of the Illinois Natural History Survey. The Frank C. Bellrose Waterfowl Research Center is housed at the Forbes Biological Station. Staff of the Bellrose Waterfowl Research Center conduct research on a variety of topics relevant to wetland ecosystems, with a specific focus on the ecology and management of wetlands, waterfowl, and other waterbirds. Our research efforts focus on the Illinois and Mississippi rivers and the wetlands throughout the State.
