  • Spring Break: STUDY IN FRANCE

    During this 2020 spring break study abroad trip, participants will go into the classrooms of Cité Scolaire Internationale de Lyon (CSI) in France and learn about the education in France, discover the impact of different culture and education systems on the teaching in the classrooms, and meet the student teachers from ESPE Académie de Lyon (Claude Bernard University Lyon 1) while enjoying the beautiful cities of Lyon and Paris!

  • Spring Break: STUDY IN ITALY

    During this 2020 spring break study abroad trip, participants will visit Milan, Verona, Reggio Emilia, and Venice in Italy.  We will take you to visit classrooms in Verona and Reggio Emilia and learn from the cultural and educational perspectives of Italian students and teachers. We will also meet up with the semester study abroad students and teach abroad students from the College of Education in Verona! 

    Participants will visit Milan, Verona, Mantova, Reggio Emilia, and Venice. In Milan, you will see Castellow Sforzesco and Duomo and immerse yourselves in Italian culture and art!  In Reggio Emilia and Verona, we will take you to visit classrooms and learn about Reggio Emilia approach from the cultural and educational perspectives of Italian students and teachers. In Verona, you will also learn about Italian cooking and make some traditional Italian food, as well as learn about Italian wine in a winery. In Mantova, you will go to Teatro Bibiena: the palace where the Opera was born and the theater where Mozart played. In Venice, you will go to a glass factory and lace school in San Marco Square.

  • Spring Break: STUDY IN SPAIN

    Collaborating with Centre de Formació Permanent at Universitat Politècnica de València (URV), this study abroad trip aims to provide students an overview of education in the Spanish region and a comparative experience between the European and American education systems.

    On this trip, students will visit URV, attend seminars at the College of Education, visit local schools, tour local cultural sites such as Reus Art Nouveau tour, and spend the last day in Barcelona.

    Accurate Biometrics will visit the College of Education, Room 333, on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 between 10 a.m. and noon to administer fingerprint criminal background checks. You must have a background check on file to conduct research in local schools this academic year.

  • Image of Research Competition NOW OPEN

    Graduate and professional students enrolled at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign are invited to submit images of their research, creative or scholarly work, along with a short narrative sharing how it has impacted them or others.

  • Early Childhood Education Program Exemplary in Learning Outcomes Assessment

    Congratulations to the Department of Curriculum & Instruction, whose BS program in Early Childhood Education was identified as exemplary in the Learning Outcomes Assessment Update for AY 2018-2019. Fewer than 10 percent of all degree programs at the university received this recognition.

    The National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment (NILOA), will be honored with the 2020 Contribution to Higher Education Award at this year’s American College Personnel Association (ACPA) Annual Convention in Nashville, TN. The Contribution to Higher Education Award recognizes individuals and organizations who advance a broad higher education agenda through meaningful work at the institutional, regional, and national levels. This award acknowledges the impact NILOA has had across the higher education landscape as they work tirelessly to inform and enhance assessment work focused on improvement of teaching and learning.

    Kelly Searsmith, M.Ed. candidate in Education Policy, Organization & Leadership, gave the keynote talk at the PASHA seminar, which was held at Illinois Central College on Saturday, January 25, titled "The Cliff at Childhood's End: Helping Emerging Adults with ASD Make the Leap to College." She also served on a discussion panel, addressing questions from an audience of clinical service providers, parents, and autistic students.

  • Alumnus Royel Johnson, EdM '10, EPS, Cited as Emerging Scholar

    Royel M. Johnson, EdM '10, EPS, now assistant professor of higher education within the Department of Education Policy Studies in the Penn State College of Education, has been selected as an Emerging Scholar Designee by the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), a comprehensive student affairs organization that engages students for a lifetime of learning and discovery. He will receive the award at the ACPA20 convention to be held March 2-5 in Nashville, Tennessee.

    Lisa Skultety, graduate of the Curriculum & Instruction doctoral program and now an assistant professor at the University of Central Arkansas, was selected for the STAR program, a prestigious program sponsored by the association of mathematics teacher educators, which provides mentorship for early career mathematics educators.

  • Pilot Project Funding Available from TIER-ED

    The Technology Innovations in Educational Reserach and Design (TIER-ED) initiative announces a Pilot Projects Program designed to foster inter- or trans-disciplinary intellectual engagement through funding pilot or proof-of-concept projects to better position faculty teams for competitive external funding and have more collaborative research opportunities for students interested in pursuing graduate studies in TIER-ED focused areas.

    Submission deadline is Friday, March 27, 2020 by 5 p.m. CST.

    Drs. Natasha Jankowski and Gianina Baker will help lead a new initiative, Credential as You Go, exploring the feasibility of a nationally-recognized, incremental credentialing system in higher education which expands upon existing certificates and degrees at the associate, bachelor’s, and graduate degree levels.
