    Sarah Isaacs Wins 2021 Advocate Award from Women's Resource Center

    Sarah Isaacs, librarian and project coordinator at the Illinois Early Intervention Clearinghouse, is the Student Affairs/Women's Resource Center 2021 recipient of the Strive Awards Advocate Award. She holds a master’s degree in library and information science and has worked with children and families in a variety of libraries for 20 years. Since arriving at the EI Clearinghouse in 2012, she has worked hard to expand the resources available and raise awareness of this outstanding state resource.

    Nidia Ruedas-Gracia, assistant professor in the Department of Educational Psychology is invited to be the keynote speaker during First-Gen Week at Texas State University. Ruedas-Gracia's keynote address, titled "The FLI Ride: Developing a First-Generation/Low-Income Story of Success", will outline how first-generation/low-income (FLI, pronounced FLY) college students are trailblazers and can customize their college experience with the support of their institution for optimal success. Ruedas-Gracia's keynote will be held at the LBJ Student Center Ballroom on Thursday, November 9th, 2023.

  • Research Position for Postdoctoral Fellow or Advanced Doctoral Student

    Researchers from the Illinois Graduate College and the College of Education, with funding from the National Science Foundation, are studying the role of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCS) in STEM education, particularly where “flipped classroom” pedagogical approaches are being employed.  The research team is seeking applicants for a new, two-year research position. Duties will include administering and analyzing surveys and interviews, conducting classroom observations, writing reports, meeting/conference planning, and general project administration. The ideal candidate will have experience with both quantitative and qualitative research approaches, along with excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Experience with project management, grant administration/reporting, and IRB paperwork would also be beneficial. Illinois professors Dr. Bill Buttlar, Dr. Sarah Lubienski and Dr. Wen-Hao Huang will oversee this position.   • Recruiting participants for a research study: Investigating social support opportunities in medical crowdfunding campaigns

    Medical crowdfunding campaigns refer to online fundraising campaigns that are specifically created to raise funds for medical expenses on crowdfunding sites such as GoFundMe, GiveForward, or YouCaring etc. We are looking for participants for approximately 50-minute interview study. The study aims at uncovering social support opportunities in medical crowdfunding campaigns. Participants will receive a $10 Amazon gift card in compensation for participating in this study.

    We are seeking participants who:

    - must be 18 years or older.

    - must meet at least one of the following criteria.

          o Fundraisers who have raised money by organizing a medical crowdfunding campaign

          o Supporters who have donated money or helped publicize a medical crowdfunding campaign on social media

  • Quality Public Schools: A Reconstruction Legacy Worth Considering

    All are warmly invited to hear Professor Hillary Greene, James B. Duke Professor of Africana Studies at Davidson University, in her upcoming lecture, “Quality Public Schools: A Reconstruction Legacy Worth Considering.”  Professor Greene’s renowned work explores race, class, and gender and pre-1920 African American history. Her first book, Educational Reconstruction: African American Schools and the Urban South, 1865-1890, explores how African Americans and their white allies created, develop, and sustained a system of African American schools.

     

    Dr. Green’s presentation is on Tuesday November 14th at 2:00 pm in Room 2, College of Education. The talk is free and open to the public.
